My cat is suspected of having colitis. Ironically, since I switched her to "premium" cat foods about a year ago, that's when she started having tons of problems like not eating, vomiting, etc.

I was feeding her grocery store Iams in the orange bag, and though she had softer stools, she was never "sick"...

After switching to the better food, she would eat three bags of a very high quality stuff (ex: limited ingredient duck and pea) and stops eating much, gets clear vomiting, and then I'd switch her food, and symptoms would clear-for another three bags or so.

It's stressful, because I thought I was doing good for my cats switching them to top ingredient cat foods. Is it possible that some cats just don't thrive on these foods, if they have an underlying health issue like colitis?

My vet recommended i/d food to help with her issue, and though it contains so many ingredients I was trying to avoid, she goes crazy over it. Granted, it's only been a few days, but I just want to see her do well. She's not a big fan of wet food, just licks juice or eats tiny bits.

I just don't know what to do any more.

I've had kitties on the I/D. It's not designed to be used long term. I'm not the biggest fan of Science Diet foods, but I actually have a cat who eats only Science Diet Sensitive Stomach. It's all she'll eat & if I try something else she gets loose stools.

The big question is which came first - the chicken or the egg? Did the food cause nausea, thus causing lack of appetite/vomiting? Or did the nausea/lack of appetite/vomiting cause your kitty to stop eating the food? Sometimes it's so hard to tell.

What foods did you try? Sometimes another thing to look at is common ingredients that were *not* in your previous food that may be making her ill.

Hi, JenL! Welcome to TCS!

I know you mentioned that your kitty doesn't seem to care much for canned foods, but it looks like she's one of the many that have visible adverse reactions to kibble; transitioning her over to canned may be exactly what she needs.

CatInfo.org and Feline-Nutrition.org have lots of info about kibble and feline health, and CatInfo.org has a great transition article that you might find helpful, Transitioning Feline Dry Food Addicts to Canned Food.

Good luck!!!!
