We have construction going on at our house, so on busy days like today Simba and Kitty are confined to the basement (don't worry, it is big, spacious, finished) with their food and water bowls. They normally sleep the day away down there.

I went down awhile ago and could not find Simba ANYWHERE. I looked in every possible nook and cranny that I could get at (and could not get to some), and even implored to Kitty that he PLEASE tell me where Simba was.

No sign of him. Now, I don't think there is any way for him to escape because I keep the doors to the upstairs blocked, and the construction guys know not to open the doors.

But, I started to get extra nervous because Simba is on meds for a UTI (yipes-- visions of him having a terrible reaction or collapse), and also, there is a huge backhoe digging out our front yard today!

Finally, I got some marbles and put them in a hard plastic garbage can and rattled them like crazy. It was LOUD! Kitty was highly annoyed. In a few minutes, Simba came from behind me a rushed to his food bowl.

Who knows where he was???!

Ah you see it's my opinion that kittys have the natural ability to open pocket dimension in which to hide. They hide there laughing with their friends until it looks like were getting too scared then come out & get all their cuddles

LOL Amy- I have found them curled up in the armchair underneath couches, up inside the bed mattress where they clawed a hole to escape from whatever scared them- they are very innovative and great escape artists when they want to be.

When Fred was a kitten, he would curl up inside an upside down motorcycle fender that was in the garage. He would get all greasy, so we finally started throwing old towels in it for him to sleep on.

The samething happened to me trying to find BK. Sometimes I just want to know where the kitties are and I can never find BK when he is hiding. This went on for a week (just when I am looking for him). So one day it happened again and I asked my husband to help me find him. Guess where he was? The computer desk has a cabinet with a hole in the back for cords, we opened the door of the cabinet and there he was, sleeping. I think he was hiding from the 2 kittens.
Silly cat

Also Bk hides in the lazyboy chair, where the foot rest folds up under the seat. It makes a nice box for him.. Thats where he goes when he sees the pet carrier, a trip to the vet

LOL! Yes, I like the comment about them entering another 'dimension' and laughing at us. Like the Twilight Zone!

Miss Molly likes to hide in the back of our closets - she's scared me a few times when I was looking for something and she jumped out.

When we first got George, we looked EVERYWHERE for him. My son found him with a flashlight & mirror hiding behind the basement stairs where all the cobwebs and dirt have been since 1942. Eeeew.

I think cats have a 6th sense of these magical hiding places! I had an episode of searching the entire house, for a good 10 minutes, and then I turn around and there is Amber sitting quietly with a sleepy face.

I think the secret to finding the hiding space is to look in the strangest most out there location. Gambit's new found hiding space seems to be behind the tv.

There's no place like home
Mine have dug a hole in the cloth on the underside of our bed's boxspring mattress, then climbed inside. They used to open the door to the furnace closet, climb on top of the furnace and walk the heating ducts. We've got a lock on that door now.

Catsplay - I bet he climbed up in the rafters of your basement.

I've found Socks sleeping IN Christmas stockings in the basement... they were in cardboard boxes and I guess she just thought it was dark and cozy... lol.

They are so good at hiding! It's hard to tell where he was! In the past, I've found cats hiding up under ceiling tiles in the basement (when I was a youngster). The scariest place I ever found a cat was in the dryer venting tube (that goes outside). Luckily this one had a filter screen so kitty couldn't excape to the out-of-door!

I have found mine in a drop ceiling and inside the bottom of a couch.
