Hi!
I just found your forum and I am looking forward to poking around and learning a lot here.
I have had cats all my adult life, but I have never had a cat like the one I brought home Saturday. He is a 7 year old orange tabby. He has lived with a family since he was a kitten, but his family did not know anything about socializing cats, played with him inappropriately, fed him a different diet every day, left him alone for very long periods of time while they traveled overseas. He's a mess!
After he attacked my daughter the second day he was here, I now have him in a crate in my bedroom. I am attempting to socialize him again, but this is pretty new to me. I have some friends who have done this before with feral cats and I am following their advice. I am making slow progress with him. He is not growling and hissing at me as much. Sometimes I can even enter his room without him hissing. He always growls, but now it is mostly a low rumble in his throat like a grumpy old man.
I don't know if I can post links here or not, but if you would like to read our story, you can go to http://www.squidoo.com/taming-a-cat .
Looking forward to getting to know all the humans and cats here!
