Newbie with new, challenging cat

Hi!

I just found your forum and I am looking forward to poking around and learning a lot here.

I have had cats all my adult life, but I have never had a cat like the one I brought home Saturday. He is a 7 year old orange tabby. He has lived with a family since he was a kitten, but his family did not know anything about socializing cats, played with him inappropriately, fed him a different diet every day, left him alone for very long periods of time while they traveled overseas. He's a mess!

After he attacked my daughter the second day he was here, I now have him in a crate in my bedroom. I am attempting to socialize him again, but this is pretty new to me. I have some friends who have done this before with feral cats and I am following their advice. I am making slow progress with him. He is not growling and hissing at me as much. Sometimes I can even enter his room without him hissing. He always growls, but now it is mostly a low rumble in his throat like a grumpy old man.

I don't know if I can post links here or not, but if you would like to read our story, you can go to http://www.squidoo.com/taming-a-cat .

Looking forward to getting to know all the humans and cats here!

Welcome To TheCatSite Frischy, wavey.gif

It sounds like you have a challenge on your hands.
You are smart to look for solutions because with patience and knowledge, your little lion can be tamed.

I clicked your link, but it did not take me to your info.
You might want to try that again. smile.gif

The Forum that AJ suggested would be a good place to post a more in depth thread about your cat's behavior issues. Be sure to read the permanent threads at the top of the page....
there might be some helpful info for you there too.

If I can help you with questions you have about our site, click my username, send your question, I will get back to you asap.

Please make yourself at home. rub.gif
