I have had a cat as a pet since I was 5 years old... which means I've been an owner (you never really own them, do you?
) for 23 or so years. I haven't been able to keep all of them from birth to death, but always found them a new home if need-be.

Proud to say all my cats have lived happy and long lives, all of them were adopted strays, and all of them spayed/neutered early in life (to keep our over population down).

I don't believe in vets much, I know the kittens need care/attaention and shots, but once into adulthood and living as a housecat, there's no longer a need.

I do believe in good diet (lots of dry and canned food as dietary supplement and "treat" only, and NO table scraps!), lots of love, and plenty of play.

I also don't try to be over-bearing, and allow the animal to act like and animal and climb all over the place if need be. You'd be surprised how well behaved they can be if not disciplined all the time
. Sometimes I feel people with the most problems with their pets are the ones that over discipline the most, possibly a result of the animal 'striking back' at their authority figure.

Enough about me

He's some pics!

"Oliver", my current tabby:

Welcome to the site! Sounds like you have many wonderful memories of very special felines.

I agree about discipline too. My two only have one "rule", which is that they can't go on the kitchen counters (more for thier safety than anything else). They have no problem with this, and they are very well behaved in general.

Enjoy your time here!

Sometime I'll take some decent digi photos of "Oliver", my current all-orange 5 year old tabby.

Thanks for the welcome folks, time for me to prowl around

Aww cute! Love the 'fat pad' on Oliver
Looks just like Zoey's.

That's a cool tank too. Zoey likes to watch my fish as well

He's been on a diet for 6 months, hate to see what would happen if he wasn't dieting :p

welcome aboard! Love the kitty and the aquarium. I used to have a 110 gal salt water when I lived in Michigan. I miss it.

Cat's are cheaper and more rewarding... but fish are very low maintenance when you really think about it...

I may go salt water one day, but this 30g is only my second tank and feel I have some more to learn before sinking more money into the hobby.

Oliver sure as hell wishes for salt water :p

Oliver's my first short hair, always been a long-hair fan (I had no choice is rescuing oliver, and I'm glad I did)... but I love those persians

Thanks Nicole. She looked sooo cute that day

Personally I think fish are entirely much harder to take care of than cats

Nah, 30 minutes a week for a water change and tank cleaning, 5 minutes a day to feed... no affection/attention ncessary (sometimes I don't feel like being affectionate but don't have a choice with oliver as he's kinda 'sensitive').

Oliver occupies more than 65 minutes per week, not including the impact of early AM wakeup calls for affection.
