Questions and problems

I thought this might be a good place to put issues you are having, and we can try to answer them all here, or if needed, get things fixed that aren't quite yet working right :)

Editing a post - FIXED

Avatars and signature text - FIXED

Avatar changing when connecting to Facebook - open

Connecting with Facebook - does it put all your TCS posts in your personal profile?

Useful stuff

To change your avatar/signature (text only) - go to "My Profile" (up the top), and you should be able to click on an option to change your avatar right underneath the avatar itself.  Scroll down, and you will find the signature changing option.

Typing out smileys does not work - current default is Rich Text Editor.  So if you type  in Rich Text Editor it will appear just like that.  If you like to type in your smileys, go to My Profile, Edit Account Details, then under Site Preferences you can change the option to be BB Code Editor.

Thanks for starting this, it will be nice to have a place to go and look to see if a problem has already been reported :)

Does the site seem to be running slow for anyone else?  Pages are loading very slow for me, I even tried re-starting.

Carolina, I merged your question into this thread (gave me a chance to see that the appropriate tool is working too).

I am seeing the same issue with the avatars - not seeing the link to replace the avatar. I have reported this to the tech team and I'm sure it will be fixed soon enough.

Keep the questions coming, folks. That's the way to squash the bugs and make sure everything's working properly!

Sorry if it is my stupidity.... But still don't know how to edit Avatars and Signatures - not even text and icons/thumbnails. There is nothing to click, nothing giving me an option to change my Avatar signature - no link, whatsoever. There is to edit subscription, create links, add albums - but not for the two I actually want to change....

Also, what is making it hard to read I think, is the width of the screen/posts - way too large!! Anyways to make them not read full screen?

Ok - I just figured it out - you need to click on preferences, then click yes to this: Constrain Threads to Constant Width

and no to full width....

Oh..... much better!!clap.gif

It's very fast for me here. How are you doing with other websites? Maybe it's a problem with your internet connection?

That is interesting! I'll look into it.

Question:

Is there a way to make it so you don't have to click "Get notified when others reply?" dropdown menu when posting? Like a default selection...

Hope my question makes sense. Thanks

You certainly don't need to click on it.  Mine seems to be "immediately", but I'm not getting notified of anything as far as I can tell.

If you go to your profile, then Edit Account Details (toward the top, on the right), there's some notification options there,

Yes, there's a way there to set it up the way you want it. It should be set to "automatic" by default, which means you won't necessarily getting emails with every reply, but more likely a daily digest of replies. You can change that if you like, but setting it up to "immediately". That's how it's supposed to be working. Sarah, if you're set for immediately and not automatic and still not getting them, then we need to look into this. I'll go and test that myself.

The default on mine seems to be Daily Digest...... I shall check out preferences.

On that note....... I also noted that once you connect to Facebook through here, all your posts on TCS will be posted to FB - I was wondering if that will be on the TCS page or on our wall.... Do you guys know? I don't want my FB wall to be full of TCS stuff...

Oh, yeah - and thank Sarah!! :D

BTW - you guys are Rocking overthere!! Things are getting fixed super fast!! Avatar is fixed.... Sig is kindda buggy, but probably because I don't know how to use the albums yet - text is alright.... Edit button is working..... You rock!!

I can't log in using Firefox - "Remember Me" is superimposed over the Log In button. Right now I'm using Chrome.

It's working fine for me in Firefox (Windows 7). Which OS are you using?
My laptop has Windows Vista.

I'm fine on Firefox here - what's your screen resolution?

Yeah, sorry, not digging it at all. I'll miss this place but this color scheme is not at all agreeing with my eyes.

Migraine producing to say the least.

I'm not sure if this is the same for all original Beta testers but I see my 'recent' posts as posts from more than a year ago, does this happen for anyone else?

Same here, almost.  I don't actually have migraines, but it's definitely hard on the eyes.  I'm finding I can't spend more than about five minutes at a time looking at it. :(

Is it the color scheme you guys are having a problem with, or with the look, width of the page, etc?

The way the forum was setup for me was too wide, full view, once I restricted the size of the posts on the preferences, it got WAY, way better to read - the difference was night and day.... It was almost impossible to stay before.... To wide, making the sentences to long....

Its definitely the color.

It's the color.  I already changed the width of the windows so it's more readable, but that doesn't make it any easier on the eyes.  I did find an add-on for Firefox that allows me to change the colors on any website.  I'll have to play around with that to see what I get.

I'm so sorry the color scheme isn't comfortable for you frown.gif It's actually the default color scheme we used on the old platform, and the one an overwhelming majority of members are used to.

I'm afraid there's no built-in option in the forums to choose a different skin, however, if you're using Firefox, you may be able to use this solution -

  • Go to Tools > Options
  • Under the Content Tab, click where it says "colors"
  • Uncheck where it says "Allow sites to choose their own colors"
  • Set up the colors of your choices for background, fonts and links.

This will not create a very pretty design, but should allow you to get rid of any bothersome colors and create a simple palette of your own.

Hope this helps!

It seems like it's only for the 'recent' posts part at the bottom of my profile, if I view all my posts it shows them correctly.

This doesn't really help, as then you can't really see the menus.... The forum bars, logos, everything disappears, pretty much.... sigh.gif

Yes, that would render a limited version of the page, but I thought it might help when you're trying to read a lot of text there and don't mind the limited navigation system.

Another thing you could try is this -
http://userstyles.org/stylish

If I understand correctly, it allows you to override any site's color scheme with another one of your choice. It's available as an add-on for Firefox and Chrome. I haven't tried it myself though.

Well im viewing the site through my phone and won't be doing that very often as I still can't use the view new post button that works because the site can't open the drop down menus will there ever be a button that is just a button?
