I absolutely hate waiting for lab results. It's torture. I'm glad to hear everything is good so far. Keeping fingers crossed about everything else.

Thanks, friends . I think I totally went over the deep end yesterday and it cost me a pretty penny, but I was so scared with that coughing on top of that bloated tummy and I really thought he was in distress. I have two vets , I took Wendall to my TNR vet, it was a new vet I had never seen before. I wonder if I took Wendall to Pipsqueak's vet, he would have calmed me a bit and not have done all of these tests. Oh well, Now I have baseline bloodwork on my Fat Boy, Wendall and two xrays to boot This vet even gave him an anti-inflammatory and I was freaked that she gave him Metacam I found out it was Ketoprofen, so that was alright. She seemed to just take over yesterday. I am glad I had the xray's done because I have never had a cat with such a balloon feeling belly before. Still worries me......

OH Fat Boy Fat Boy, I love you

Lauren, Wendall is definitely in very good hands!

Just continuing the vibes that there won't be any surprises today.

How's he doing today?

I think YOU'RE feeling better today!

Wait a minute. A CBC only tests things like electrolytes and blood cells. A super chem (or chemistry panel) tests organ function. Which did Wendall have, or both?

A receptionist should not be giving out information about blood work, ever. Always speak to a vet tech, at the minimum, and of course preferably the vet, regarding blood work.

It's very strange to me that the FeLV/FIV/Heartworm results are not in yet. Is this the vet you always use? I know I sound nit-picking but my goodness that is a lot of unnecessary stress you are being put through.

If Wendalls gums are still pale, I'd have him back to the vet today.

Thank you for your concern . I believe it was everything included in the blood work . I will pick up the results today after they all fully come in. I am a bit confused as to why the two parts didn't come in together either.

I have used this vet for years. All of my rescues/TNRs go to him. I usually see the head doctor but since this was a last minute appt., he was booked so I saw this other vet on staff. Pipsqueak goes to another vet and has since a kitten. The other five see this vet since I got them all neutered (tnrd - friendlies) through him. Saved me loads of money on all of their neuters. He is really a great vet. But if I feel a second opinion is in order on Wendall, he will go to Pips vet. I like having the two, they are both good.

Wendalls temp this morning was 101.6 and his gums do look better. I did hear the raspy breathing again this morning but no coughs.

Still haven't heard . Will report any news as soon as I get it. Thanks

Well, it is official!!!!! Wendall is going to live ..... After all of this, he is either my Fat Boy with a cold, or my Fat Boy with allergies.. All of the tests were negative, everything. The only thing was the Albumin was slightly elevated, probably due to the fever he had. I am adding extra water into his wet, and he loves soup anyway. In fact, he loves anything.

I am going to pick up copies of everything and am interested to read the findings. The vet did say, his bloodwork was so good, he could be a donor. Even the corona virus titres were low. There is not a definitive test for FIP, but it makes me feel good that the titres were low.

Thanks SO much everyone for all of the vibes these last couple of days. I guess I just got scared with the bloated belly and then the coughing/rasping so I raced him to the vet thinking the worst. Well, all is just fine and he is a healthy fat boy, my Wendall . Hopefully, this raspy breathing he is having in the morning will just go away on it's own. I am giving everyone 500 mg. of Lysine for now to help them all out in case this is a virus and gets passed around.

That's GGGRRRRRR...EAEAEAEA... TTTTTTTT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm much relieved.

I'm a privileged person because I'm one of the few who has actually met Wendall in person, AND, he allowed me to pet him.

He's just adorable, though a mite bit chubby.

But, now he has to go on a bit of a diet ... His triglycerides were 200 . Should be below 160. He has a bit of padding. He is a small cat. Short legs and stocky. He is such a cute chubby fat boy. I am cutting back on some calories.

Wendall was hacking this morning ....... Up came some clear liquid with a small amount of hair in it. Started him back on some hairball treatment. Luckily, he licks it right out of the tube. He does get brused twice weekly, they all do . But he is my big groomer.... he grooms himself and the other cats alot.

So Now I might have a Fat Boy with a cold and a hairball ....... My sweet little man. He seriously LOVES to eat. This morning as I was going through my morning ritual to hand-feed Wilbur, Wendall was all too happy to try to steal and run off with what Wilbur wasn't interested in.

I've learned it from my vet that this is always the sign of a digestive problem. Not a hairball problem.

Chum's holistic vet says that hairballs are indicative of a spleen Qi imbalance that affects the digestive system and not "normal" as most of us believe.

As Flowerbelle has chronic problems with hairballs, we've scheduled her an appt to see Chum's vet.

spleen Qi imbalance? What does that mean, Laurie?

UPDATE on Wendall.... Took him to see vet - Dr. Mark. He had two xrays and more bloodwork. Coughing in the morning's with phlegm and raspy breathing. About ten coughs and then he is fine for the day. I won't be able to get the full details until Monday when the bloodwork comes back in. Vet just lost his father and has to plan his funeral. But the lungs were "cloudy, inflammed a bit" something like that. Meaning possible asthma or allergy. Running a feline heartworm test as well just to cover all bases. Heart is good - no murmur or enlargement. Wendall was very frightened and was shaking badly. Dr. Mark said he normally doesn't see cat's shaking quite so violently. sniffle.gif Wendall was very scared. Made me want to cry. But he is home now. Had breakfast and is resting comfortably. Just glad to be home where he belongs. I will not worry myself so over this - will try anyway. One day at a time and will give him loads and loads of love rub.gifheartpump.gifrub.gif

I'm just reading about this now. Lots of vibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gif for poor Wendall. I hope everything is all right with him. It's so sad when cats are that terrified at the vet, since there's no way you can tell them that the vet is there to make them feel better.

Many many vibes for you and for your scared little boy. it is so difficult to remember to ask all the right questions when we are actually in the middle of a crisis. I only hope that all bases are covered now and the Wendall will soon be back to normal with nothing serious the matter.

I'm so sorry to hear about Dr. Mark's father. rbheart.gif

I know the waiting is difficult, but the bloodwork wouldn't be in until then anyway. I hope it's just seasonal allergies!!!! vibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifhearthrob.gif
post #54 of 92

Sending you good vibes also, so sorry for the vet losing his father. vibes.gif

Let's just hope it's seasonal allergies!  I'm guessing he was trembling so because he was afraid?  Poor little guy rub.gif.  It's so hard not to worry, but try not to.  (at least you know he's on a great diet, so that's one less worry smile.gif)

I am also praying it's "just" seasonal allergies and that you boy will be back in tip top shape soon.  Both Hannah and Tumbles have that asthma-like cough from time to time.  We give them pure evening primrose oil (12 drops for Hannah, 10 drops for Tumbles) and it really helps keep the coughs away.  Neither has hairball problems, but Hannah has herpes and allergies, Tumbles just has seasonal allergy issues.

Thank you to everyone for your thought's, prayers and vibes. We take whatever we can get agree.gifhugs.gifhearthrob.gif I am afraid it might be asthma. Dr. M. asked if he sleeps all night long? Yes, Wendall stays on the bed with me from the time I go to sleep to the time we get up. That is when he coughs when he wakes up agree.gif Could this be bronchitis??? No other symptoms. Might have to do an ultrasound. Will wait till Monday and see what Dr. Mark want's to do agree.gif

Wendall is really out of it today and tonight. sniffle.gif I am checking on him often and loving on him. heartpump.gif It really broke my heart seeing him so terrified. He did not make a peep on the drive TO the vet or the drive home. I honestly believe that his terror has to do with his abuse as a kitten.. walking_tall.gifangryfire.gif This was the first time Dr. Mark has seen Wendall. He commented twice - about him being extremely paralyzed in fear more so than any other cat he sees. ohno.gif We could have done anything to him. shame.gif He was almost in shock over the whole experience. I hated leaving him there for the xray. But it was only an hour before I got to pick him up. Dr. Mark also made a wonderful comment about Wendall's condition, coat and nice clean butt laughing02.gif!!! A pleasure to see flail.gif He also noticed that his teeth and gums are in excellent condition. He is only eighteen months of age - but doc said his teeth are in super shape. He said that most cat's he has been seeing lately are shedding like crazy, dull coats, dry skin and leave hair all over the examining table. In comes Wendall and knocks them off their feet with his gleaming, beautiful coat. woohoo.gif He asked if I just bathed him. I said "Nope, but he has been eating 100% raw meat for two months now biggrin.gif and chewin' on chicken thigh meat strips"!!!!! I was thrilled that he noticed right away Wendall's outward condition!!!!! happy2.gif

Thank you for keeping Wendall in your thoughts. He really IS such a unique and sweet little man. think.gif I THINK I will post some pictures of my Wendall in Fur Pictures!!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!! I will bigwink.gifclap.gifclap.gifclap.gifclap.gifclap.gif
