Upgrading The Site - Official Announcement

Thread Starter
I have recently partnered with a company called Huddler, providing us with a brand new software platform for the site. As you know, we have been putting a lot of work behind the scenes, tweaking the system in an effort to create the best possible environment for our community.

I am happy and excited to let you know that the launch date for the new site is November 1st, 2011!

Here are a couple of screenshots of what the new TCS will look like -

The new platform will be available right here on TheCatSite.com. The same username and password that you currently have will still work on the new TCS, and your posts and private messages will be there as well.

While we hope to make the transition as smooth as possible, there may be some downtime and there will probably some glitches to deal with on the first few days. We'll open a forum dedicated to answering your questions about the new platform after the transition.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and patience so far. The members here are the heart and soul of the TCS community - together, I know we can make this site even better than what it is now!

Co-OL!!
So, for those who have been working behind the scenes on this, what are the real advantages of this new platform for us?
What does it bring to the table that vbulletin didn't?
Thanks!!

Stability and speed. VBulletin was bought out and support is security patches only unless expensive support was purchased. Also, many of the add-ons we have are no longer supported and would have continued to degrade the site.

We will be letting you know of the changes over the next few days.

Looks neat! I'm looking forward to trying it out!

There are a bunch of new features, as well. Members can add content to the site in more ways, including product reviews, wiki descriptions and lists and it's all fully integrated with the forums.

Is there any support for mobile platforms or apps anne?
Ok it maybe a bumpy ride. But worth it once all the dust settles. Ok gotcha.
Looks like the right move to me

AND!!!! You can upload pictures direct from your picture files on your pc's and laptops instead of using direct links from Photobucket!

I also was wondering about this. I have some issues with trying to view TCS as is on my phone. I think it would be awesome if TCS had a mobile version.

I just use the internet on my phone to use TCS I dont see why I should have to buy an app to be able to use the site.

Lots of things to look forward to

Once you've used an app like tapatalk to view a forum you don't go back. It just makes it incredibly fast and easy. No scrolling around, no zooming around, no searching for buttons etc.

I dont think you should have to buy an app but a supported mobile site. Like if you go on verizonwireless.com it goes to a mobile site. It kinda cuts things down to the meat and potatoes of the site without overloading your phone with all the extras that can make it difficult to manuever thru. Thats what I had meant. I wouldnt be all about having to buy an app either. I would just like a mobile version of TCS. I have a Droid X and its kind of a pain in the batookus to view things that arent a mobile site especially if Im looking for something while running something else. Its really really slow for me. But a mobile version would make things run alot smoother on a phone and also not take up as much speed vs a regular site loading. I spend alot of time away from the house where my phone is my computer and even doing just random site things its a battery killer being on full sites vs mobile sites. Like TMZ has a mobile site. You would still have the option of viewing a full site or the mobile site.

Looks very nice!

I dont have a problem with the speed off the site on my phone i just need to double tap the screen and it puts it at a reasonable size to view and for the sake of a few movements on a screen it doesnt bother me, I hate hate hate mobile sites because it takes it away from the site I want to look at LOL

which is precisely what mobile sites and forum apps are designed to avoid It doesn't replace a full site, it just gives them a new lease of life for people who are always on the move.

I guess its each to their own

I mostly just like that mobile sites kinda get down to the meat of the site, you still get everything the site off but in a more simplistic form. Which for a phone is good. Im all for a mobile site with the option to view full site...noone would be forcing anyone to view the mobile site on their phone but for those who do prefer the simplicity of a mobile site would have that option. Everyone gets a piece of the pie and is happy.

I love the way the new site looks. I cant wait to see it on the computer.

Just a heads up, another site I belong to recently upgraded and many pictures posted as attachments were lost. I had pics in there that I didn't have anywhere else. And now they are gone forever.

So just in case, if you have attachments here that are not in a photobucket account or are not in a file on your computer, save them somewhere else, before the upgrade. Maybe that won't happen here, but you never know.

PS the smileys in the other site were changed too, they aren't nearly as nice or as fun. I hope that doesn't happen here. This site has the best smileys ANYWHERE

On the other hand this site is so slow for me now, that I look forward to being able to spend time here again. As it is, I can't view more than a couple threads in a sitting, because it takes so long.

It looks wonderful! There will be bugs, but there are always bugs with new things. And it will all work out. Thank you, Anne, and a big thanks to everybody who experimented during the beta process.

When we were in Connecticut over the weekend, I used my phone to come here as well. I didn't post because it's a hassle to post with the Droid. But I was still able to come in and read. It would be nice to be able to use my phone for that.

But I'll just come in using the URL. And double-tap.

Anyway, I'm excited about the new "look".

??? We can already do that. I've had numerous attachments in this forum. Sometimes it's easier to use photobucket, sometimes it's easier to use attachments, depending on the nature of what I am posting about.

Like this....attached image uploaded directly from my computer.
