hhhmm. . the cartridge .. . i think they mean the ring with the bags in it. I dunno cuz I threw my directions out

Whatever you do, don't do what I did and open a new thingee of bags. The unit already has a bag thingee inside. You won't need new bags for awhile.

It's very cool. You'll love it.! (Once you figure it out)

Oh I guess its what holds the bags in? And when the bags run out you have to buy a new cartridge?
I thought maybe it was an odor eliminator or something I have no idea

Yes, the cartridge contains the new bags. I think it has instructions on the cartridge itself but I am not sure, still waiting for my replacements to arrive via UPS.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who found it confusing at first
We just got ours about 3 days ago and love it.

So, I have a question for experienced Litter Locker users...

Do you fill up the container and then twist in until it stops? Or do you twist it each time you put something in it? Do you twist in until it locks or just until the litter is out of site?

I'm just curious how everyone does it. And how often do you cut the bag? Or how do you know it's time to cut it?

Sorry so many questions!

Hi funkyg

I fill up the chute until the litter is a couple inches from the top, then I twist until it stops, not just until it is out of sight. That way the wheel is set for the next load. I turn mine even if there is just a few lumps to prevent any smell — unless it's just dried up pee balls. . .in that case I might let the balls sit there until there's another "load" before turning. Whether you turn each time is really up to you (and your sense of smell
) but when you DO turn, you should turn it until it clicks.

*Don't overfill* the chute so that it is bulging at the top . . . otherwise it will be really hard to turn. . .not just for that particular turn, but until you cut the bag off. Each load should be no more than a few inches from the top so that each half of the wheel has a nice even amount of litter. If one half of the wheel has 10 cups of litter jammed in, it will be hard to turn.

It's time to cut the bag when the wheel is very hard to turn, and that would be different for each cat household, how often they pee and how many kitties. Remember that after the wheel locks in place, you need to turn the wheel back slightly to get it going. Don't force the wheel if you feel resistance. Just turn it back slightly.

Hope you are enjoying it!

I have only had to empty mine once so far so...........The handle got really hard to turn and it was time to empty.

As for use I just scoop once daily and put it all in the locker at the same time and then turn the handle. I scoop out the mess on my litter day which is Monday and then I dump the actual litter into a grocery bag for trash. I don't put my litter in the locker, just the poo and pee mess. I think if you put all of the litter in there on clean up day the bag would only last a short time.

I have to turn my handle every time I put poop in there I wouldnt let it build up, that would smell pretty bad.
I dont put pee in there because I use crystals and the crystals absorb all the pee.

When I emptied the bag (about a week or so of using it) I noticed a lot of "extra" bag in between the poops. It looks like such a waste of bag. But I dont know how else you could do it to spare more bag except letting the poop build up before turning the handle

Ick. . .no we don't want poop build-up

What about bending a bit of empty plastic bag over a bit and rubberbanding the sections between the poop loads? Sorta like a u-trap for a sink or toilet. .. .

After all what's the point of getting this cool toodle unit if it becomes a big hassle?

Helen,

I looked at the Diaper Champs after you mentioned it once. . .is that the device with the "chute" that you stick the diapers through? I was thinking it would be harder for me to aim the pee balls and such through a hoop, rather than the more funnel like the LitterLocker. Have you ever had trouble aiming? I may get one of these for another litter box.
