Favorite scary movie to watch: Halloween
Scary movie that I can't watch: The Exorcist (I saw it in the theater when it was released, and to this day I can't watch it)
Favorite scary book: I love Stephen King. The Shining was scary (the movie wasn't, IMO) The original Dracula by Bram Stoker is a really good read.

I love Halloween! Stephen King is one of my favorite authors too. I also like Dean Koontz although his books have gotten weird lately.
My favorite movie is The Shining (the Kubrick version) but I like a lot of horror movies like 28 Days Later, Ginger Snaps, Halloween, Final Destination, Let the Right One In, Nightmare on Elm Street(the original) etc...
My favorite horror novel, hmmm that's a tough one... There are too many. I really like a lot of King's anthologies though. So maybe one of those, like Skeleton Crew or Everything's Eventual. I also really like the anthology Soft and Others by F Paul Wilson.

I was also a big fan of RL Stine and Goosebumps when I was a kid. I still like to watch the TV shows when they rerun them.

I love those too, especially the illustrations but I always thought the drawings were way too creepy for kids' books!

Ok, let me explain
The movie itself was scary, I agree (although there was a made-for-tv version starring Steven Weber that I thought was better). I just had a huge problem with Shelley Duvall; she was so wrong for that part. And I'm a big fan of her's; she just wasn't right for that movie.

Libby..Them are fight'in words! I think she was perfect for the role. A whimpy submissive who had to gather strength to get through it. And she did.

Ahem, sorry. One of the scariest books I read was Christine by Stephen King. The movie rather scared the crap out of me, too. The Exorcist was excellent, too.

And I cannot forget Dawn of the Living Dead. One of my GFs was visiting with me the first time we saw it and when it was over and it was time for her to go home, she was afraid to get in her car alone. I laughed and agreed to take her home and we'd take care of her car the next day. Until I got her home and then....I didn't want to come home by myself! She ended up spending the night at my place. Now? The movie is camp. Then? It scared the crap out of us.
HAHAHA! I love that story!!!! My daughter was afraid to drive home alone after watching the final Harry Potter movie (she was afraid of Voldemort) so she stayed with a friend LOL.

Love Dean Koontz books.

This is going way way back -- but the original Psycho with Anthony Perkins was one of my favorites. To this day I still imagine sounds in the house when I take a shower!
I REFUSE to shower with an unlocked door. After I go through the bathroom looking for hidden guys dressed like their mom (we have a walk in closet in our bathroom)

OMG!!! WE WERE SEPARATED AT BIRTH!!! I have said that for YEARS...no one ever listens to me LOL. The whole point of Jack being so insecure was that his wife was GORGEOUS! Now Shelley Duvall is a great actress, but...gorgeous? Hmmm....

Those little ghost girls used to scare me when I was little. I still find them creepy

I just discovered Session 9. I really liked it. The Changeling is also one of the most scary movies I have ever seen. I am more scared by the supernatural than some hack and slash movie. I hated the Saw and Hostel movies.

My favorite horror author is Shirley Jackson. I am re-reading The Sundial now and it is a most wonderful book. We Have Always Lived in the Castle is another great one. Not horror in the ghost/slasher way but very, very good.

What is Session 9...book, movie, tv series? I'm the same way...supernatural is what freaks me out. I am in a musical group and there's a ghost in the church we practice in... LOL

I can't look at Shelley Duvall without seeing Olive Oyl, yet somehow I still love The Shining.

My favorite is "Nightmare on Elm Street" The ORIGINAL one. I also liked Hallowe'en (the first one) and "Friday the 13th"-the Original one as well.

The newer horror flicks are more gross disgustingness as opposed to the scary stuff I grew up with.

My hubby agrees with me; she was the perfect Olive Oyl, but just so wrong for The Shining.

One of my all-time favorites is The Haunting of Hill House. The original B&W movie with Julie Harris and Claire Bloom was good, too, unlike the remake.
