There's a kitten which seems to be around 5-7 months old that is hanging around my work and the other businesses the are next to us. Its a light ginger cat with a white face. Not sure if its a boy or a girl but its really frightened of people. The weather is starting to grow cold out and I hate knowing its out there. Tonight walking up to work was the first time I've seen it. Before I've been just hearing about it from other employees and some guests. The kitty was laying on the side walk that leads up to the main doors and immediantly ran under a car when it saw I was heading in its general direction. I was NOT chasing it lol but I had to walk towards it to get in the building. It kept on running under the next car and the next car until I lost track of it and went inside.
I really would like to get the fellow and take him somewhere that he'll be safe but not sure how to gain his trust. I thought of food but there's a nice number of raccoons, skunks and opossums that live in the area that are a little less spooky acting. I think by the time the kitten would get brave enough to approach food, another animal would've gotten to it first.

Good you are planning for something. Perhaps even adoption? Adoption by you or some relative is a safer solution than some sort of shelter. Unless it is a very good, efficiently run shelter with a high adoption rate.
Although you can try to ccoperate with some shelter. for lending a trap, and or getting reduction in vet costs, for example.

The best way to catch very shy kitties is by a human trap. (It may be also for your own shy kitty who happened to escape - I was once in this position
)

You must be prepared other cats or even raccons also get in there before your protegÃ[emoji]169[/emoji] gets catched, so think out what you will do with this extra cat Just release or try to help it too??.

Food for cats you can leave above a table. preferably a one legged table.
For cats its no big deal to jump up, but other animals, including rats, wont get up there.

Good luck!

For me at least adopting is out of the question due to restrictions at the apartment I live at. I may be able to find another home for it but most likely I'll have to take it to a shelter or rescue. There are a couple no-kill shelters that a few friends have volunteered at and I myself have volunteered at the Humane Society which takes excellent care of all their animals and only put animals to sleep if they have no other choice (in cats, usually health problems that are fatal anyways.) Usually if they have an animal that they can't take care of they try to make arrangements with a foster or other rescue group So our Humane Society here is pretty nice and since they recently got a new facility that's roughly 5 times larger than their original building they don't have to put animals to sleep just because they don't have room. They even have music/sound therapy that they use in all the kennels and their "on the floor" rooms are pretty a sound proof so in the main public areas its really quiet. Unlike a lot of places, the animals actually seem happy and you actually don't get depressed going there yourself. Anyways, point is that if I have to take him to the humane society, it would be a lot better then it ending up jumping up into someone's car engine and getting seriously hurt or worse.

AWWWW I really hope you decide to try to trap this little fellow. He needs someone to help him. I would call your local shelter/rescue/TNR group. They will happily loan you a trap. And they can show you how to work the trap. If I were you, I would tie the trap door up so the trap is left open. Put is inside a large empty dog food bag, it should slide nice inside (if you can get a bag, the shelter will haven empty large bags too). This will make the trap feel more safe and smell good too. You can slide the trap under your car or right next to your car. Believe me, the kitten will find the food, it will be hungry. Feed the little one in the unset trap for a couple of days in the morning hours only. So when you get to work, put down the trap again and put food way in the back, canned kitten food. After work, or better yet, at lunchtime go and see if the food has been eaten. A raccoon, opossum or other nocturnal animal will not come and eat the food in the morning hours. If the food is gone, you can be sure the kitten or a cat ate it. Take the trap home each night after you get off of work. The kitten will get to know the schedule and that you will bring that safe, feeding shelter each morning. After a few days of the food regularly being eaten, set the trap and in kitty should go. Have a place to directly take the cat/kitten already set up. Have a plan. It will be a bit of work on your part, but you will be saving lives and it will be very rewarding to you
And you are right, when the weather turns very cold, this little one most likely will crawl into a warm engine in the morning hours
Poor little baby. I really hope you can help
