I started out with a vet that charged $30 for an exam and paid an additional $22 for a feline lukemia shot. He treated Mia roughly I thought. I really didnt like him.

My daughters dog recently was bitten by a wolf hybrid. We took him to a differant vet. We had to drive 25 miles but it was well worth it. The vet was gentle cleaned the wound, gave her instructions for the antibiotic and a rabie shot and tags while there. He worked great with her dog as he is afraid of men and the vet calmed him with just his voice and mannerism.
The vet visit was $17, rabies shot and tags were $10. antibiotics were $5 for 10 days, $33 total. I was so overwhelmed with joy. This was a vet that truely cared and was not in it for the money.

Mia has now had an exam from him. He did so well with her and talked with me instead of at me while I was there. My total visit was $25 for exam and rabies shot and tag. He is a country vet and he will make house calls too if needed or meet you at the office if there is an emergency after hours and on Sundays. I feel very fortunate as I live on SSDI which is not much.

Would like to hear from others about their vets.

The first vet that we took our pets too was $50 for an exam fee. I didn't like the way they talked to ME although they were good with the animals. I left them after the vet told me that I shouldn't own a dog if I wasn't prepared to pay $5000 for a surgery that Sadie didn't even need.

Our next one was a state of the art place, good with the animals but not very thorough. Their office fee was $60, no discount for multiple pets like we had at the other place. I left them after Sadie had three grand mal seizures in a row and they told me that it was normal since she was epileptic, didn't seem to care that she had never had a single grand mal, let alone three in a row. They also missed the fact that she had three giant bladder stones that even I could feel.

Our current vet is awesome, but like yours, out of the way. It takes me about 30 minutes to get there as they're in a small town just outside of the city. Office fees are around $40-50 (I can't remember, sorry), but they will discount for multiple pets. They also offer a payment plan if you need it.

Hmm... looking in my files, the local VCA where I took Genever for her first exam after adopting her (because the SPCA gives a free VCA exam voucher with the adoption) was $47.50. That was in January 2009. I didn't like them though, so I looked for a vet who was a member of AAFP and found our current one. I love her, and the whole office. Last I took a cat to the vet for an exam, which was last Saturday for G-cat's ear, it was $49 for the exam. I think 2 years ago when I first started going there it was $45. Of course, whenever I take them in, it's NEVER just an exam, there's always something else going on, whether a vaccine, or looking at ear gunk under the microscope, fecal test, bloodwork, or meds for this or that..
They don't do or give things unnecessarily though, which I do appreciate. I don't know if they're cheaper or more expensive than other vets, but I really like the way they treat my cats and me, so I'm sticking with them.

59 is the reg exam but sometimes I will pay a recheck fee instead if its a fast exam and thats 35. I am lucky as they are very close by. Back in mid 90's we were paying 29 but that vet was awful as no talking/very short answers to first time owners.

New patient exam $77
Existing patient exam 58
New Kitten exam 51
Existing patient medical exam 68
reeval of existing problem 23-40
Behavior counseling 77-158

This clinic is a little on the high side for this area. It's a feline only clinic and the best one I have found in this area for cats.

The regular places I go are 55€-60€/$75-$80.
Just visited 2 different vets this week with kitten(s). The other one is in a different city and takes 25 mins to drive but they're better with 'complicated' stuff than the one which is closer which I use for regular stuff like vaccinations. The closer one also has ER, it's 10min drive there.

I want to say it's around $60 for us but I'm not sure off the top of my head if that includes any vaccinations. Both kitties are due for visits so it's been about a year now.

Sounds just like my vet, down to the 30 minute drive. Roughly the same prices too.

My vet will sometimes give you a quick exam for free if you're a regular. When I lived with my parents, one of our cats barfed up some grass and the liquid was bloody so we took him in spur of the moment to have the vet check him. The vet gave him a quick looking over and had us tell him how the cat had been acting and what he had been doing prior to barfing and then eventually told us that sometimes grass with give cats smalle cuts (like paper cuts) in their throat and sometimes stomachs which will cause bleeding and then of course the blood makes their stomach's upset so they through up. He also said sometimes the grass itself iratates the stomach and the lining of the stomach may bleed even if they're no cut. It was something that was pretty common in cats that eat a lot of grass. The exam only took about 8-10 minutes and he said that it was no charge. It was so nice. Though, they do get a little pushy with vaccines. They send you post cards in the mail when your animal is about due for another shot but if more than a week passes after its due and you haven't taken your animal in yet, you start getting more and more things from them in the mail and eventually a phone call. Its good they want to make sure all their animals are up to date on their shots but they don't seem to take "I have to wait til my next pacheck" as an excuse to not get your animal their shot right when its due.

My Feline vet charges for the exam, but I have to tell you-I feel as if I am one of their personal friends, invited for coffee.
I was there an hour (they did the felv test while I waited) the first visit. They played with Kairi, and their 5 cats (a whole litter of beautiful girls) entertained me with their personalities.

My Vet speaks to me like I'm an intelligent person, capable of decision making. I worked for vets when I was younger, and many vets left a bad taste in my mouth with their condescending tone. I LOVE my feline vet.

My dogs vet charges as well, and I always leave feeling as if I've been swindled.

We pay $37.50 for a regular exam for one cat with no shots, tests, swabs, etc. For each additional cat, we now pay $17.50 extra (it used to be $37.50 regardless of how many cats we brought in for exams at one time).

Last night's visit with the tech for Tabby's ears (which turned into a dr exam, too), was $58.39, which included the tech exam (no charge for dr), a new cleanser for her ears and more yeast medication.

I have a wellness plan on my cats, so their exams are free. Bi-annual comprehensive exams (fecal, swabs, physical, etc) are $138 or so each time without the plan. Office visits are $31 I believe but I also get those free with the plan.

I'm going to give the actual prices for the clinic where I take my cats. But, considering I am an employee and I also have wellness plans on my pets, the price I actually pay can be considerably different.

An office visit is $35.95. However, I do not ever pay an office visit fee.
FVRCP vaccine is $21.95.
Feline Leukemia vaccine is $21.95 (though we very rarely give this vaccine).
FIP vaccine is never given and, thus, I don't know the price.
Rabies vaccines are $14.95.
FeLV/FIV tests are $34.95.
Fecal exams are approximately $23.00. Deworming is $14.00.

I could go on and on with pricing, but I'll spare you all. And, unless anyone is specifically interested, I won't go into canine or other species pricing. (I ramble on about it enough at work anyway
!)

My wellness plans vary in price. For some, I don't pay anything as it is a benefit of being a vet assistant. Others, I pay a portion on. But, my prices are different than those for others and unless anyone wants more information, I'll leave it at that.

Interesting thread, though. My, some of the prices are high. And, conversely, there were some that were amazingly low priced (though I suppose those are the country vets -- still excellent, just not as costly). Either way, it's definitely interesting to read what others around the country and world pay.

A regular exam for my cats is $50, and $15 for my rats. However, the shelter I adopted both of my cats from requires you to take your cat to a vet within five business days of adoption, and if you use a vet on their "preferred list", the exam is free. Thankfully, my vet is already on their list. I do have to pay for vaccinations and their flea/tick medication.

I really love both of the vets at the clinic I visit. Dr. Berge has cared for my rats with knowledge and compassion, and Dr. Duprey has treated my cats exceptionally well and taken time to answer all of my questions.

The building might not look like much, but all of the staff there are wonderful and the prices are reasonable. I refer everyone I know with pets, especially exotic ones, to this clinic.

The last visit to the vet I had for Cindy was

Repeat Problem Exam: $33.75
Complete Urinalysis: $36.00
Adult Laboratory Health Screen: $108
Bi-Annual Wellness Exam: $45
Discount $24.75.
Total: $222.75

For Swanie:
Office Visit: $12
10 Zeniquin 25 mg. pills: $28.30
Pill Gun: $4.95

They are scheduled to get their rabies shots next week, so I don't know how much those will be.

It might be a little pricey there, based on what I'm seeing in this thread, but its a cat only clinic, about 5 miles from the house, and I like the vet. We have been taking Swanie in for her to give him his pill (because most of the time we just can't do it) and she hasn't charged us. She also took calls from me two Saturday evenings in a row, first when Cindy was coming down with the URI and the next week when Swanie caught it. The first time, she said she wasn't in the area but she would have someone meet us at the clinic. The next week she said we could start giving Swanie some of Cindy's pills until we could get in there on Monday. And she didn't charge me for anything but the pills. Also, she's always rescuing special needs cats, both at home and in her clinic, which I think is great.
