Say hello to Dill

Hi! My name is Kaylee. I'm 20 and my roommate and I became 'moms' to a kitten about 2 months ago. The guy who had the kittens was going to bring them to the humane society if they didn't find homes and a little orange and white one was the only one left. Her and I ended up going out a few towns over and picking him up and what greeted us was a very stocky kitten. We were told that this kitten was a girl so she got the name Daffodil. Well... about 2 weeks later after much debate, we came to the understanding that Daffodil is just a Dill.

Dill always was a bit 'bigger'. He was kind of stocky. Very playful, very outgoing, but NOT independent. He is a sucker who needs to be with people ALL the time so when we leave him alone to go to work... he destroys the apartment and enjoys biting us when we come home and rip roaring through the place from boredom. However, he doesn't like other animals so we can't even get him a playmate.

This was Dill when we first got him at around 7 or 8 weeks old.

And this was him about a month ago, passed out while watching the Aristocats, from a long play session.

Dill has facebook and is a hit with pretty much ANYONE he meets. He even was invited to and took part in a costume party (and before anyone jumps down my throat, he wore the costume for 10 minutes, it's a Build a Bear Outfit) and he wasn't harmed. He walked around like there was nothing happening and just wanted his chin and ears rubbed. He's not dressed up daily, this was the first and only time this has happened (however, he may get to take part in a Halloween party if he'll be as willing to dress up in a few months :p)

Dill trained himself to use the washroom in the toilet (we didn't train him... he just started).

Dill is approx 4 months and 2 weeks old and weighs in at almost 7lbs. He just got neutered 2 weeks ago and the vet was astonished by how large he is for a basic domestic short-hair.

Dill would like to say hello but he's busy eating his second bowl of kibble and his other half of canned food so he won't be able to do so for a little bit :p

Dill's adorable

You'll be glad to know you aren't the only 1 who dresses their cat up. Mine get dressed up every holiday. Whether they want to or not

Aww, he's just a little baaabyyyy X3
I don't know why you think he's 'bigger' or thick-built, he's so small and cute!!

He is just so adorable
He is a kitten full of energy who was separated from his mommy too soon, so, in addition from being a kitten and naturally "everywhere", you will need to do some extra work educating him and redirecting this energy! A great toy for him is probably Da Bird. Don't play with your hands, don't wrestle with him, don't let him bite your ankles or hands, even during play or else you will have a very hard time breaking this habit later on.... Always have a wand toy with you to redirect his attention when he starts going nuts playng bite...
And about his independence... Just curious... What makes you think he wouldn't like a playmate? Kittens this age do GREAT with other kittens, and adapt super super quickly to buddies - it is probably the best thing you can do for him.... and you too

BTW - LOVE the outfit! Super cute! So funny!! I had to laugh at his little butt!!!
Welcome to TCS - your baby is cute beyond words!

Haha, Dill has attacked the neighbors two dogs, her two cats, and other kittens when we brought him to the humane society to 'meet' other kittens. He puffed himself RIGHT up, hissed, growled, and then usually jumped them. He's not too keen on others for some reason. This was before he got neutered though so maybe he'll get better in a few weeks or months when he calms down a bit and all those hormones are gone.

Thanks everyone. Dill says 'hello!'. He's sleeping besides me after a walk. I don't know why we think he's a 'big boy'. He just seems bigger than any kitten his age, everyone comments on how big he is and manly, even the vet said he's larger than he's supposed to be. He's for sure not 'fat', but I think he's just developing quickly.

HAHA! Dill looks like Han Solo! (Is that intentional?)

If you look at my pictures... well, let's say that My4LLMA has proven to me I'm not the only one out there who dresses their cats for major holidays. It's the little things...

AND he trained himself to use the toilet? That's something I've thought about trying but never got around to it, since we do a lot of visiting trips to Grandma/Grandpa and Nana/Poppa's house... I just don't know if they'd realize where to go! Good boy!

Oh, but this is normal....
Cats need to be introduced to their future buddies in a completely different manner, or that's what you will get. Here at TCS, there are detailed instructions on slow introductions - it involves placing the newcomer in a different room for a while, doing scent exchange, meet-and-greet, supervised meeting, and so on.... Cats are very very different than dogs - some very very mellow cats will completely freak out if taken to an environment like a shelter and even attack their humans - it has happened to a member here at TCS - the parent's arm was literally shredded. They do not function well on these types of abrupt meeting circumstances.... but that doesn't mean at all that they are not social - just that they were not introduced properly
The reaction you got from him is the reaction you'd get from probably the majority of cats if put on the same circumstances - that or a complete withdraw.
A kitten at his age can be introduced to another kitty in no time and be very very happy with a lifetime companionship

Yea, I may have to slowly introduce him to another cat. Once I start saving up again.

I wanted to get another ferret, I used to have one and he played a bit too rough for my mother's elder cat, but I think one would be the perfect match for Dill's play tactics (biting, kicking, jumping, chasing, holding-on-to-mom's-pantleg-for-dearlife-before-ricocheting-off-and-hiding-in-the-bathroom-closet)

A ferret is a perfect play-mate for a cat.
