This is a total pity-me post.

But for the past five weeks I've been without my cat Allen, and I am dying. I had to take him to my parents because of the evergrowing rift between my roommate that eventually came to a head. I thought I'd get him back July 30th, which was when I moved in to my new apartment.

Not so, there was so much maintenance that had to be done on the apartment that I decided to wait. The maintenance is JUST getting finished now (which I find insane), but I still can't bring him down due to me going to the US Open in NY after labor day weekend. If I brought him down now, he'd be here two weeks before I'd have to take him back to my parents so they can watch him. Taking him to a cat sitter wouldn't be a good idea, I think, because he would get so stressed out.

To top it off, when I talk to my mother during the week, she jokes that she doesn't think they can give Allen back - "Honey, your dad would just be heartbroken! He and Allen are best buddies now." Which is true, since my dad started feeding Allen his meals, Allen has quite warmed up to him

And he has a blast at my parents, because it's huge, he can run around like a psycho, and try to make friends with their cat Merlin (a futile quest, though he keeps trying), and he's got my parents that absolutely spoil him.

But I want my baby!!!!

I'd go get him now. How long will you be gone to the US Open? My cats have stayed a whole week alone before (with a friend checking in on them occasionally) and been just fine! I left lots of food and tons of water and they survived nicely. My friend gave them a can of food when she checked in each day or so. It didn't kill them and they were a lot less stressed than if I had tried to take them somewhere else.

Go get your cat!

Awww... well, on the plus side, at least Allen is getting spoiled!
And, once you get him back, you can urge your parents to adopt another cat...

Your dad will bond with another kitty - there are so many that need to be rescued! And maybe Merlin would like a different kitty better. Well - one can always hope!

Hang on! Not much time left to go!

You are almost there and I, too, would leave Allen at your parents till after your trip, as he is already there and settled in !!!! And, yes, please tell your parents to go to the shelter and find Merlin a new brother or sister
SOOOOO many wonderful, sweet cats need homes. HEY - maybe Allen would like a friend too

Let your father know, he can come visit Allen any time he wants

Or better yet, take your father to the shelter and have him pick out a cat (or 2) for himself
