Motivation Pls! Weight-loss Journey

Hi people.

Since I frequent this thread a whole lot of times during the day, I feel I need some support in a spot where I will see it often. This title would even be a reminder for me. (I have joined a weight-loss forum, but I can't seem to get into it)

I am embarking a long, tough journey. Weight-loss. I was on Weight Watchers last year, and lost 18 lbs.. but alas, I've gained it ALL back. I wish I could blame it on overtime on work, which 'made me' eat horribly and miss gym time.. but I know, I cannot use that as an excuse. it's my fault. I wish I could blame it on my cats, but it's my fault that all I want to do is snuggle with them when I get home!

Being short on cash, I've decided not to rejoin Weight Watchers and try this on my own. I've joined a gym for 20 bucks a month which is a great start.. though.. I joined 6 months ago and barely went!

My goal is to lose 25 lbs.. see how I feel then and maybe lose some more.

Is anyone else on the same journey as I am? Can we be support buddies, and check in on each other? Can you be the rear-kicking partner that I need? Can you share motivational quotes and stories?

If this sort of thread isn't allowed here, please, do let me know!

Sure, Karen! I need some accountability in my eating. I'm into the Paleo diet/lifestyle, though, which is a bit different from Weight Watchers, but the motivation and inspiration/success stories part will be the same. Any other takers?

Well, I've lost about 27 pounds this year with Weight Watchers, but I'm getting lax and not losing any more. I need a rear-kicking too!

I shall warm up my foot for any rear-kicking that you or anyone else needs! Congrats on the 27 lbs!

I've read briefly on the Paleo diet. I don't think I am quite ready for that yet, lol. Just need to cut back my calories and eat healthier foods!

I actually made a few charts and motivational quote pages and hung them up in my work cube.. I am forced to look at it every day and hopefully it'll burn in my mind!

At work, my department just moved into a building that is still being renovated, and one of the renovations that is scheduled to be finished here in about two and a half weeks is a gym upstairs! So we are planning to work out together and maybe attend some Zumba classes. I have moderate low back pain that has caused me to miss work before, so I really need to strengthen my back muscles and lose some weight.

Do you have an idea of how you'd like this to be structured? Just come back to this thread & share stories?

I'm jealous. I want a gym right in the work place, so I can at least stretch out during lunch!

Umm.. I haven't really thought about how to structure this. Maybe it can be like a log for us.. we can post what we did for the day.. vent, share victories, and such? whatever we want? lol

Count me in. I'd like to lose about 20 pounds and I'm getting very lax in the exercise and walking department. And I'm eating way more than I should. I don't join WW or anything, but I just need to get back on track and it's more difficult now for some reason. I'll do whatever you want.

Winchester- let's have a friendly competition to motivate each other since we want to lose about the same amount. Let start easy.. to 5 lbs first?

New day all I am more focused today that I was yesterday. I had a small bowl of cheerios and 1% milk for breakfast.. 1 cup of coffee, and I have a peach and a whole bell pepper waiting for my mid-morning snack.
No idea what to do for lunch.. maybe i'll make a quick omelette?

I tried Weight Watchers and I think it's an effective program if you can stick to it... but I was hungry and cranky all the time, so I gave up. Now I go to the gym 4 days a week, and do interval training on the elliptical. It's a great way to burn fat, or so I've read! Still waiting on those results...

WW is great if you do stick to it, lol. I lost almost 20 lbs on it, but a year off it, I gained it all back, LOL. I am terrible!

I really need to get my rear to the gym and get over my intimation of the elipitical!

Winchester.. It's ON!!! grrr!

I especially like sharing recipes, since boredom is often the reason that I give up. I've been really hungry lately, not sure the problem, I've gained about 5 pounds in the past few weeks and do NOT want to go there again!!!

I am always up for recipe ideas! I really can't offer much since I don't cook.. main reason why my weight went back up. oops. though I did make a nice talphia fish (sp?) with grated parm cheese/mayo/lemon sauce on it. it was good!

Decided on a nice BLT sandwich on whole wheat toast for lunch. mm!

Well now, I'm always open to sharing recipes and I've got a lot of them for low-fat, low-calorie, low pretty-much-anything if you're interested. And they taste good, too. Anything special you'd like? Meatless? Rice and grains? Poultry? Let me know. I can try to help.

I would like anything actually. Low fat, low calorie. And I'm experimenting with a little meatless once in a while.

Tonight for dinner, I made Grilled Eggplant and Portobello Mushroom sandwich. I forgot to get spinach, so I had to use lettuce instead, still good! Also topped with tomato and garlic/lemon/light mayo sauce on toasted whole wheat bread.

Hi there, just came across this thread and thought of sharing this wonderful website with you, in case you do not know about it. It's called sparkpeople.com and they have smartphone apps, too. Basically you keep a log of what you eat - they give you calorie counts and between what they have in their database and what other members share, you can more or less find most foods (including restaurant items) included. You can also track how much you exercise. It's great because once you see the numbers in front of you, it motivates you and then you can befriend each other and check out what the other is doing - and motivate one another. I think it's one of the coolest wt loss resources out there. They also give you recipes and generates shopping lists, if you want it.
All the best with your wt loss and fitness journeys.

I didn't know it right away either, but there are quite a few.

I added some recipes to the Weight Loss group....they're all light recipes, but they're delicious!

Oh excellent! Thanks!

Lost almost 2 pounds between yesterday and today. Finally. Probably because I didn't do the bad snacking that sometimes occurs in the evening.

ETA: those recipes look AMAZING. I am SOOOO excited!

I think you can do a makeshift weight watchers on the cheap on your own.

Just go to the healthy frozen food section and buy tons and tons of frozen foods on sale, add up the calories to see how many you can eat per day (probably 4-5) and then just grab a thick black magic marker and write M-1 or T-3 for Monday 1st meal or Tuesday 3rd meal etc on the box. Voila, perfect calorie control on a balanced diet.

Not so simple - if you had done weight watchers in the past, you'd know it gets more complicated then that.
The points system takes in consideration the fiber contents and calories. If I am not mistaken, it does take in consideration fats too. The more fiber the food has, in proportion to the calorie contents, the less points it has. It is not only counting calories. There are empty calories, there are good calories - it is more about portion control and eating healthy foods.
Well, yeah, its not exactly the same but similar. Most of healthy choice, lean cuisine, smart ones, etc boxes are pretty healthy balanced meals if you get a variety of choices. But that's true you can subtract fiber from carb calories, since its not digested.

Just an idea for peeps on a budget.

I thought I'd throw in what weight loss method worked for me. I started gaining weight after I had our daughter because my Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and hypothyroidism kicked in. I gained 40 lbs. in two years. My metabolism went down to almost nothing and my doctor was amazed that I hadn't gained much more, but I've always been pretty good about what I eat.

I've lost 47lbs. so far, it wasn't quick but I wasn't gaining any more, either! I also went through menopause (where most women gain weight) while still losing weight.

Here's what I do: I eat like people did 100 years ago while living on farms.

That's basically it. They didn't eat packaged and processed foods, artificial sweeteners, artificial colors, highly refined sugars and flours and oils. I eat as much as I want of meats, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, butter, cheese, honey, maple syrup, and whole grains. I'd drink milk if I could find it raw.

Weight Watcher's core diet is very similar from what I've heard. Back-to-basics is good!
