A quick question... what would you have done?

I saw this while my mom and I were driving yesterday. The dog was not leashed, and the person was driving on a 55 mph road (straight into a thunderstorm). A kid in the backseat has his hand out the window and the dog was leaning outside of the truck bed to lick it. They drove right past a cop who didn't even bat an eye. Am I the only one for thinking this is extremely irresponsible and unsafe? My mom was fuming about how people like this shouldn't be allowed to have pets, and I have to agree. She was about ready to stop and confront them but I made her keep driving.. but now I'm thinking we should have done something (other than flip them the finger! LOL). What if the dog was afraid of thunder and jumped out of the bed, or if they got in a wreck? Nothing was holding her down, and they were going 60 miles an hour...

And before I get called out on it, I wasn't driving when I took the picture. My mom was.

What WOULD I have done? Probably nothing, as I really, really, really hate conflict. Plus, you never know about people, you don't want to put yourself in a dangerous position.

Check the laws where you live - if it is illegal to have a dog in the back of a pick-up, report it. You've got the license plate number.

I would have told them off, they wouldn't put their kid back there (obviously).
I also have a nasty streak when it comes to justice being served (thanks mom!).

I have a tiny truck, but my dog rides in the cab, and if that isn't possible, he rides in the back, in his crate, secured with tie-downs and covered.

I probably wouldn't have done anything, but that does piss me off. I hate people that assume nothing will ever happen to them and make stupid unsafe decisions like that. Poor dog.

I hate when people have their dogs in the back of pick ups. It can't be safe, especially if they are in an accident

I probably wouldn't have done anything. I see that ALL the time here. Well, if the dogs aren't crammed in a tiny "dog box" in every lifted pick up in the state
. I'm always surprised when the dogs don't jump out of the bed and make a break for it, cuz mine would have if she was ever in the bed of a truck unleashed. My dad always put our dog in the cab with him the few times he drove anywhere with her.

When we were driving in New Mexico, we stopped at a Del Taco at a gas station. There were two Rottweilers in the bed of a truck. Thankfully they were leashed to the truck, because they weren't the friendliest dogs I've come across. I felt bad they were tied up out there in the sun while the two women that got out of the truck ate lunch.

Once I was driving in the FWY in LA and a dog was hanging by its collar on the side of a truck... the driver didn't notice, as it was on the passenger's side, so it just kept going dragging the dog at 60+MPH while the dog was suffering horrors in spite of everyone honking. Just your worst nightmare
The driver eventually stopped. Stupid stupid - we kept following him to make sure he did.

I notice you have the license plate - I say check the laws and call the cops email the picture if that is against the law.
What would I done? I would turned my car around (after writing down the license plate) with this picture in hand and gone after this cop that was on the scene. I don't believe in doing nothing....
