Requesting a ton of vibes for new foster, Brooklyn!

Hi all,

With fosters Portia & Beau going home yesterday, that left us with an empty foster room. We brought home a new pregnant foster girl, all black short haired, who we named Brooklyn.

She is quite pregnant, all belly and nothing but skin an bones. Aside from this she has quite possibly the worse URI I have EVER seen. She won't eat and is so incredibly lethargic.

She is on antibiotics, we have BMP for her eyes, I have a vaporizer going along with saline in her nose to help her breathe. I also syringe fed her some KMR to try to get some nutrients into her. I just feel so terrible for her and her unborn kittens. Hopefully we can get her well before the babies arrive. PLEASE send those vibes!

You are such a love for opening your heart to this sick little mother kitty.
I know that you are giving her every possible chance to beat this.

What has the vet said about her or the kittens chances?

Sending MAJOR TCS VIBES for Brooklyn to find the strength to survive.

Many, many vibes for you, Brooklyn, and her unborn babies .

Thank you for taking in such a sweet girl. The poor thing is not only very pregnant, but she's sick to boot. Thank goodness she has you in her corner -- I don't suppose she'd fare well in a shelter environment right now.

I don't have any words of wisdom, but I did want to relay a recent experience I had at work. We work with a number of rescue groups and, about three months ago, we had a cat come in who was thought to be a kitten. She was in rough shape. She was tiny, malnourished, skin-and-bones, and very sick. She had a fever, a serious URI, an eye ulcer, and a horrid case of fleas. The rescue found her and thought she was just a couple of months old, but when our vet took a look at her, it became obvious that she was older (closer to 10 months than the original 4) and pregnant. Her tummy looked like she had worms, but no one originally thought she was pregnant. Unlike Brooklyn, this kitty was not all belly. Thankfully, the vet felt some movement and we went from there. She was sent home with antibiotics, ointment for her eye, and fur free of fleas. She didn't seem to respond to treatment initially, but, after a bit, she did improve. And, while she was still recovering from her URI, she gave birth to three little kittens.

The kittens were tiny and mom had a rough delivery (she had her babies at the vet clinic), but they all made it through. Once we determined everyone was stable, she went home with her foster mom. Mama kitty needed help in the beginning, but with some TLC, she turned out to be a wonderful mommy. The kittens needed to be bottle fed on top of being nursed as the mother cat was not producing enough milk, but they did remarkably well. Unfortunately, even though their mom recovered from her URI, the kittens did develop an infection at about 10 days old. Thankfully, with vet intervention, they all survived and we have seen them multiple times now for their deworming and, most recently, their first round of vaccinations. They're all healthy, curious, and mischievous kittens and their mom is quite spunky herself. All have homes lined up. So, even a potentially devastating situation can turn out to be a happy occasion. I wish that to be the case for Brooklyn and her babies...

Good luck and please keep us posted on Brooklyn's progress. I hope she rounds the corner and begins to feel better before she has the kittens. And, I wish you the best with helping her get well. Again, many vibes for everyone involved -- including the little ones yet to be born .

Alison, thank you SO much for that story! It gives me hope!

Brooklyn is VERY slowly starting to recover. She isn't nearly as congested as when she first got here, but I still can't get her to eat on her own and she is seriously fighting syringe feeding. I'm going to go out and try some tuna, chicken broth and baby food. ANYTHING to get this girl to eat! She's slowly gaining strength back as well. She makes a MESS with water though! She swipes in her water dish and water always goes everywhere!

We ended up buying Sybil a jug-waterdish because she kept dumping her water while she was still a foster and the jug was too heavy for her to knock over without a ton of effort.

I'm glad Brooklyn's feeling a bit better and am keeping up the good for her. Summer colds suck.

for Brooklyn and her babies. Hopefully she feeling better, since she's lapping up that tuna juice. When do you think she's due to deliver? Let's hope not before you can get this URI under control!

Not really sure hun, but I HOPE she has awhile to go yet. I'm not detecting any real movement, and I am hoping that is because she's not too far along as opposed to the alternative. It's just so heartbreaking... This poor girl and her kits are pure innocents. I heard Brooklyn meow for the first time today. It was almost like a "thank you", you know? Dana was petting her today and she was leaning into him... It was just precious. She just had her nighttime dose of meds and I syringe fed her a little more tuna juice, as she only lapped up a bit of it and I wanted to make sure she had a bit more. I was just so excited to see her lap some up earlier, as it was the first time she has shown ANY interest in food since she got here. Baby steps!

Brooklyn is giving birth and she is not even remotely strong enough for this. Baby 1 was not fully formed, stillborn.

Oh Kailie, I'm so sorry.

Mega for Brooklyn. Apparently she's gone into labor too soon - or was too sick while pregnant.

And for you and Dana.
