What a nightmare.

The fridge died... on the 4th of July. We've been swapping out 5 bags of ice in twice a day to keep things cool.
Unfortunately, replacing a fridge in the RV is not the same as replacing a fridge at home. You don't just plug it in. First, it has to fit the opening you've got. We couldn't afford a new one, so got a refurb - came without door panels on the front. Of course the model of refridge we bought with the RV doesn't exist anymore, and they're slightly different sizes, so our door panels don't quite fit properly on the new one. We'll figure something out - they'll need a bit of trim to fit the 1/4" where the glass ends and the edge of the doors are on the new one.

BUT... it WORKS! It takes about four hours for the cooling part to get going, but it is definitely getting cold in there!

Here's the package that was delivered this morning:

Here's our old fridge (I'm going to miss it!) :

You can see the lovely smoked glass door panels better in this picture (the panel that controls it has been removed - it all comes out in pieces) :

New fridge - finally in (doors still have to go on LOL) :

Here you can see - just insulation. No door panels. And the lovely handles on our old fridge don't fit on the new one.

But at least it's here, it's in, and it's working on both propane and electric, and switching without a hitch!

And the one that was delivered had the doors opening from left to right - which I think you can see from the skinny hallway would NOT work!
So all the hardware that did come with it had to be switched. And of course all of this was on the hottest day of the week!

I'm so glad that you have a working fridge again!!

I'm surprised that a refubished unit didn't come with panels and handles. I thought if you bought something refurbished that it came complete.

Oh, even the new ones you have to order the door panels separately. I didn't explain it right. We were hoping our door panels would fit, because the cheapest we found are about $140 and they're just ugly black acrylic.

And it has the little "flip handles" that "lock" to hold the doors in place during travel. These are also standard even on new fridges. The old fridge had those too. It's just that when one of the little flip handles broke on the old one, we "upgraded" the handles. They're probably out there somewhere for this new model, but they'll have to go on my "Christmas Wish List."

Yay to your fridge! I'm so glad everything worked out.

(That looks a lot like the one in my parents' RV. She used to keep that thing well-stocked. I don't know how she fit everything in there, but she always did.)

Have you tried eBay for door panels and handles? You never know what you'll find on there...

So glad you have some cool again, at least... and y'know, if you get enough refrigerator magnets, nobody will ever guess there are no door panels on there... ;-)

You know, it's really funny. It seemed so small when we first moved into the RV full time. When we moved out of the RV into a house, the fridge in the house seemed so HUGE. It didn't take long for us to realize - with all that space and just two people, we bought more than we needed, and we let stuff spoil.
So we tried to scale back on the fresh food purchasing.

So that was just another thing we enjoyed about moving back into the RV, funny enough - the "just right size" refrigerator!

What we could use is a larger freezer.

It doesn't look at all bad without the panels, and you can probably find something cool to decorate it with - maybe cork or (oil)cloth cut to size and held in place with magnets?

Ya for working appliances!! !!!
I love how well it fits into the spot your other one was in! You will have it looking gorgeous in no time when you get it fixed up the way you'd like with the panels/handles!

I actually just had to buy a fridge last week from Lowe's! The people that lived in the rental house that I'm moving into randomly took theirs with them when they moved, so I had to find one to replace it. (Thought I found a good one on Craigslist, but it was NOT soo good when I went to take a look. I even tried some of the referb appliance stores near me/scratch dent ones, but didn't have any luck. I wound up getting one of the least expensive ones Lowe's had at a really good price! If you guys ever need standard appliances, check them out- they'll honor any adds for other stores and discount it! (They let me use my discount coupon, and even did free delivery/instillation. I wasn't thrilled about having to purchase an appliance in the middle of moving, but the people there were soo friendly, it definitely softened the blow a bit with all the discounts/etc! I've never been soo excited to have a fridge lol!
). I bet you're happy to have a working "home" for your groceries again!!

We went to Home Depot today to get the glue that will work to hold the smoked mirrors on there, and we were going to figure out what to use to fill the 1/4" gap or so around them... but CORK is a BRILLIANT idea!
