Question of the Day Wednesday June 29, 2011

Which do you prefer glasses or contacts? Or do you not need them to see?

I wear glasses. I wear them most of the time. I am supposed to use my bifocals to read but I find it easier to read without my glasses at all. I remove my glasses to work on the computer. I tried contacts several years ago, but I have so many allergies, I had trouble with them.

I only wear glasses during work to reduce light/computer glare (and to prevent migraines).
I am not a fan of contacts.. I don't feel they're very safe for the eyes and can do damage in the long run

Oh boy do I need them. I have awful eyesight. I wear both glasses and contacts. Usually half and half. But I prefer contacts because I can then wear sunglasses

I wear both. I don't really have a preference but overhead lighting can sometimes bother me when I'm wearing contacts.

I've been wearing glasses since I was 7 years old
I tried contacts when I was a teenager, but they really bothered me. Now I feel naked without my "goggles"

I have glasses which I am supposed to wear for reading but I never do.

Been wearing glasses for longer than I can remember, they say I was 3 when I got them. Still wear glasses, and the last time I asked about contacts, my eye doctor asked if I still played in mud and grease and with horses. When I said yes, he told me about polycarbonate lenses and got me set up with them: they are light, damage resistant (runnning over a pair with a combine did no damage to cousin's flex frames with polycarb). I wear a modified bifocal, with the bottom part of the lens made for reading music and computer screens, rather than reading; I take the glasses off to read, always have done, and it works for me.

As to wearing sunglasses, I get shooters glasses that have high UV protection and come in different colours for different conditions, 16.00 a pair and they fit right over glasses and last for years or until someone steals them

I've never worn contacts, nor do I want to.
I'll stick with my glasses

I wear glasses, never tried or wanted to try contacts.

Though I can now see without glasses due to my cataract surgery, I need them to correct astigmatism and read. Never had contacts. Tried them but could not tolerate them for even a second.

I've been wearing contacts for about 36 years. I started out with the old hard ones that had a tendency to pop out when your eyes got too dry, and now wear 14-day (soft) bifocals. I take them out in the evening, because I don't like the idea of removing eye make-up or sleeping with them in. I put glasses on when I take them out, but the glasses annoy me, so they usually end up on a table somewhere.

I dont need any vision correction, but am on the edge of buying a pair of glasses with "blank" lenses, because I love how glasses can change/enhance a persons look!

I have reading glasses, distance glasses, and contacts (one eye is corrected for distance, one for reading). This is what happens when you get older, lol!

I usually wear glasses at home since I switch 'em around depending what I'm doing. Contacts are best for going out, I can see both close and distance, wear sunglasses if needed, and contacts are the best when it's raining out.

I wear bifocals all the time and only change them to a darker shade of glasses when I'm on the computer. I have never tried contacts.

I use I have astigmatism...... as well the DR tell me for the measure of the my deficiency is not recomendable I wear contact lens.......I wished to use it....

I've had glasses since I was 13, but never tried contact lenses, since my eyes are on the sensitive side, and I never got my head around putting "foreign objects" into them.

I prefer contacts!

I wear both about 50/50; I can't see much at all without mine, so they're definitely not optional! I prefer to wear contacts because I can see better with them, but I also have dry eye issues, so I like to give my eyes a rest and alternate with glasses too.

Contacts. Though I hate when I forget to take them out before going to sleep. I got glasses in 6th grade, and when I was 17 my parents finally let me get contacts (They were trying to "make up" for our impending move 850 miles away after my junior year of HS ended). So I've been wearing them for 7 years now. I have a pair of glasses also that I wear on weekends and nights.

Would love to get Lasik and be done with both.

I am the same way. I don't think I could touch my eye.

I was probably around 3 or so when I got my first pair of glasses....my mother has pictures of me as a wee little girl with blue glasses.

About 20 years ago, I tried contacts and loved them. Wonderful idea! I could wear them all the time and I was of those people who never had an issue with contacts. My lenses were a lovely shade of green, so I had red hair and green eyes. And I would never had to deal with glasses again.

Or so I thought. When I lost a lens and went to the doctor for replacements, I found out that my corneas were starting to starve....the blood vessels surrounding my eyes were starting to come to the eye to "feed" the corneas. Had I not lost that lens, one night I would have taken my lens out....and the corneas would have probably torn apart.

So I'm back to glasses. I'm supposed to wear them all time, but never do. I do wear them to drive, simply because it's on my drivers license that I must wear prescription lenses. Other than that, though, no. The glasses I have now are no-line bifocals and they're flat-out annoying. I can't wear them while I'm working on the computer and I can't wear them to read either. I read very fast and found that my head is constantly bobbing back and forth and up and down, trying to keep the text focused. Too much of a hassle. Sometimes I'll wear them when watching television, but even that's rare.

I also have prescription sunglasses and I wear those constantly. I love them. I probably wear my sunglasses more than I wear my regular glasses, even when I'm outside mowing lawn or working in the garden.
