California Natural

Can anybody tell me what the qualify of Cal Natural is now that they've been bought by P&G. I thought I would switch my cats to another dry food, but its not working out too well, so I'm thinking about continuing with Cal Natural. I was told by a Rep that the only family owned business left is Natural Balance, so I guess they're all selling out to the big corporations.

Same question here. My girls eat Cal Natural and I really like the limited ingredients formula. They've eaten Natural Balance before but they do a bit better on CN. I think the limited ingredient NB with peas and no grain constipates one of my girls.

Worried about P&G but am going to buy another bag of CN...not sure if it will be the last one.

I am still feeding California Natural. One of my cats has chronic digestive problems so I don't want to switch if I don't have too.

I too have resigned myself to sticking with a couple of Natura products (maker of California Natural, Evo and Innova), even though is galls me to do so.

I am feeding the California Natural venison and brown rice canned, and have just purchased on trial a bag of Evo ancestral diet herring and salmon grain free kibble for Queen Eva's snacks.

I may also try the Evo venison canned, but just as a once in a while variety, for Queen Eva, as it is very expensive.

Queen Eva couldn't stomach the Natural Balance, too much pea I think.

My biggest concern is, when the quality does start to go down (it might take another year, it;s only been one year) the price usually doens't. So we end up paying big bucks for food that doesn't rate. Look what happened to Wellness.

By the way I don't think Weruva has gone conglomerate. Or Merrick. But maybe I've missed something. Does anyone know? I feed those two brands, too.

And what about Avoderm and Castor Pollux brands? I've got some of those lying around, but won't be purchasing them again, when the cases are used up.

I don't know about Weruva, but I was told by a Rep that Merrick was sold as well. Weruva is not availabe here anyway.

I did some looking.

Merrick is still family owned, according to their website. I think Weruva is too. Neither of those are available where I live, I purchase all my canned cat food on line now, there is very little available here.

( Weruva are the makers of Soulistic and BFF also).

What happened with Wellness? That's my cats' favorite canned food. It's getting to the point where there won't be anything we can buy to feed our cats! Oh the things we do for the furry ones.

Wellness, in my opinion, has deteriorated in quality over the past year, since the buy out three years ago.

I noticed Jennie was eating it with less enthusiasm, so I decided to begin phasing it out. And then there was the recall (thiamine deficiency). By then I had Jennie on about 75% Merrick Before Grain, and only 25% Wellness and the difference is amazing. I thought she was doing so well on the Wellness, but now, on the BG, wow.

I didn't know that! I have been getting Soulistic at the nearby Petco and I just got some BFF from online.

I used it pre buy -out it just was so hard to get i gave up. I do have innova dry in my rotation so that is obviously under the P&G company now. So far, it works well here.

I think we will see fewer companies independently owned, it's a tough world economic wise and i think many find they cannot survive without the umbrella of a larger corporation.
