I've been sick since Tuesday, but the real symptoms kicked in the next day. I'm improving each day, but I feel LOUSY! I've been home sick since Wednesday. I think I may have either strep throat or pharyngitis (I've had the latter, many years ago, and this feels similar). The sore throat finally went away this AM (I was going to get a dr.'s appointment for today, but I strarted feeling so much better, I decided not to). I have a nasty, stale mucous taste in my mouth (I could barely talk Weds. and Thurs.--a blessed relief for hubby, I suppose!), and (now) a dry cough, and little appetite (everything tastes like garbage smells). DH had a look inside my throat (this is about as sexy as we've gotten for weeks. Pretty sad.) last night, and said that it looks quite healthy, with a few red speckles (strep?). Like I said, it IS getting better, but not fast enough for me! Did I mention the runs I had? Sure you want to know?
The low-grade fever is long gone, at least!

The past week 1/2 has been rotten. First, Mom dying, then me getting really sick. I'm sick of being cooped up in this house, but feel too tired to go out (I've not slept well the past 2 nights).

There is strep going around in my area. A friend's wife had it the past 2 weeks, and 2 people next door. Funny thing is, I've had no contact with them (I know about the neighbor by phone).

Sorry to whine-- I know there are people out there with far worse ailments--but I could use some advice on how to get that nasty taste out of my mouth!

Thanks!

I'm ssssooo sorry you feel terrible. The stress of your mom passing probably made you vulnerable to illness. I'm sending vibes that you get better SOON

For your mouth - how about a good gulp of that good old cure-all - WHISKEY?!

joe lombardo 12/12/2003 - 14:02

Servings: 1
Preparation Time: 0.25 hours
Ingredients:

1 lemon
3 cloves
1 shot whiskey
1 mug boiling water
1 teaspoon of sugar
Cooking Instructions:

HOT WHISKEY 1. cut a lemon into wedges, poke one wedge with 3 cloves 2. pour 1 shot of whiskey (any kind will do) into 1 mug of boiling water (it should have a light brown color). 3. add cloved lemon wedge and one rounded teaspoon of sugar (you can add more to taste). Drink it up and go to sleep! You'll feel worlds better in the morning. Or, have some sick friends over and make enough for everyone!
Get well - so sorry you feel so crappy.

The nasal congestion is better, but, boy, what a rough morning! I woke up very early, and decided to eat something, and then go back to bed. Then that throat tickle started--it made me cough so violently that I started to vomit--all the way to the bathroom. (And I didn't make it to the bathroom in time for another reason--use your imagination here!). Want a quick way to make your cat move when he's underfoot? Vomit on him.
Poor Loki! (He actually got very little on him.) Then I went back to bed. An hour later, guess what? I've seen more of my breakfast off the plate, and out of my stomach, this morning. Then round 3 an hour after THAT. I'm not nauseous or anything, just vomiting due to the violent coughing fit. I did make it to the toilet the last time, to vomit--but not how you think! I was on the toilet, and also trying to grab the roll of paper towels beside it, so I could catch the puke. Talk about not being able to walk and chew gum at the same time! Swiffer company, I love you. You make floor clean-up a cinch!
(I'd send them my testimonial for a future commerical, but I have a feeling they won't use it...)

I've since given up trying to sleep, showered, dressed, and ate a piece bread with peanut butter. I did get the tickle a few times on the left side, but it wasn't bad like before. I actually feel better after throwing up.

I have to go back to work tomorrow. Fun.
