When is it OK to start feeding Adult food to cats?

Oliver is 8 mths old and the store I buy their food at doesn't carry the kitten formula (I have no idea why). So at 8 mths can I start giving him Adult food?? I had bought his bag of kitten in one of the bigger cities when I was away shopping...had no idea our store didn't carry it.

If I can't, it's no biggie since I can get my Dad to bring me a few bags, he is coming to visit in 2 weeks but I was just wondering if it was ok to switch him now.

I feed them Chicken Soup in case it matters.

Some say cats should get it for a full year, others say 2 years, some say six months. Most cats are fully grown at 6 months, and tend to obesity if they're fed kitten food beyond that.

I would say adult food at 8 months is fine, but I'm not a vet, and I don't play one on TV.

I wish Chicken Soup made a food for both adults and kittens, that would solve my issues

I'm going to call the store and see if they can order me in the kitten food, I really have no clue why they didn't have it, doesn't make sense to carry it all except kitten.

There are a lot of different answers to your question and a lot of different circumstances. Most say 12 months. Some will say 2 years. I was feeding 3 different cat foods to my cats of different ages. I was feeding senior, adult and kitten. It was difficult. I talked to my vet and he said it would be just fine to put all of them on adult food. Which I did and they are all doing just fine. My kitten was 6 months old at the time.

I'd say anytime between now and when your cat turns 12 months old would be okay to transition the kitty to adult food.
