Last October I bought myself one of those mini laptops. A month later I decided to get one of those sticks where I can access the internet anywhere.

I didn't want to get locked into a 3 year contract because I didn't know how much I would use it. So I bought the stick and signed up for 6 months.

As it turns out I was right. The novelty wore off after a month or so. So for the last 4 or 5 months I have been paying for something I haven't been using.

Today I called to cancel the plan and was told that they require 30 days notice. 30 days?! To turn off a switch?! If I don't pay my bill, they would turn it off immediately!

Anyway, I explained to the guy that I have been a loyal customer with them all of my adult life and have every service they offer with the exception of home alarm. And despite companies popping up with some pretty enticing plans, I have stuck with them.

The guy saw it my way and told me that since I am a long time loyal customer with a number of services with them, that he will waive the 30 day cancellation notice requirement.

So now my phone bill is $65.00 per month cheaper! Next I'm going to look at my cable package. I find myself watching certain channels frequently while many others not at all. But I'll bet you a cup of coffee that most of those channels I don't watch, are bundled into packages with channels that I do watch.

I canceled my phone and Internet stick service and now use my iPhone and laptop for everything. Saves a lot of money!

Everything I have cancelled required 30 days notice. Phone, tv, internet etc. I think its stupid but its a way for them to get more money. When I cancelled my internet, I had to pay for a month I didn't even use because I had moved and didn't call to give 30 days notice.

I don't even mind the advanced notice so much, as long as its not like netflix.

For netflix you pay for the month in advance, and the next month gets autobilled.

If you call them at the beginning of the month and request to cancel, they will cancel it right then, and you lose the rest of the month you already paid for. They will not take away the auto-renew or auto-cancel at the end of the month, and make you call back at that time... but of course some people forget and then have to pay for a whole other month. Crooks IMO!

I love cable TV. But we did away with the cable bill all together, one of best decisions ever! We can watch things for free online if we really want to watch something. And spending less time dedicated to TV opens up all sorts of time for other things, not to mention big chunk of extra money per month.
