My daughters cat, Taco, somehow scooted out late yesterday. She is an inside kitty with her sisters, Mighty and Beefy.

My daughter and her family looked till dark and then my daughter was up all night long, walking the road, going through the woods....no Taco. This am she called me in tears....Taco was on the top of a high voltage phone pole at the road. Wires surrounded her.

My dh and I raced down there, I grabbed blankets to use as a drop zone. My sil had a ladder up the pole but came at least 15 feet short. The fire company couldn't do it because of the 40,000 volt line and major transformer. The power company guy, pretty much hung up on her. When the sheriffs dispatch heard of the ladder, they called the power company and then they did come out.

All the while, we are breaking speed limits trying to get there. I am riding, praying to my God, my mom, St. Francis.....nearly in tears myself. It is the kittens 1st birthday this weekend. What if Taco does not make it?

We pulled up right behind the power trucks. There she was, meatloafed on the crossbar of the "T" at the top of the pole. My daughter was a mess. Her two kids inside were devestated. My sil talking to the men.

They backed the truck in to get the right position for the bucket to go up. The guy got in....I went over and told them her name is Taco and to talk in a little high voice to her
.....and then the bucket started to rise. She stood up, scared and walked over the 40,000 volt line, her tail skimming it. My dh kept trying to turn me around....not to look. But I had to watch. Our hands were over our mouths...all of us. She got out to the end of the cross of the "t" and kept looking at a large maple tree probably 20 feet away. She was going to chance jumping to it. We are all saying....no...no....no.

Just as she had made up her mind to jump, he grabbed her!
OMG, we were so happy until she started to struggle. The bucket had only come down maybe 5 feet when he lost her and she flew through the air, hit the ground and ran. When my daughter got to her, she was standing straight up and mouth breathing. Her body was as hard as a rock. She must have been in shock. She took her in the house and slowly she came round in her arms. Eventually, she began washing. Tears flowed, the men were profusely thanked. A bunch of really good people. The man in the bucket risked his life around those wires to save a little kitty. Taco is going to the vet today to be checked out.

So, I guess I just want to say, never underestimate the power of prayer. As we were standing there after it was over, the one guy says, man I don't believe it. That was a lucky kitty. I thought, I believe it.

So, prayer, vibes, thoughts, good wishes. They are all important. And I guess, not all angels have wings......some wear hard hats.

What a beautiful end to a very tragic beginning. WOW, I am very thankful the cat was spotted way up there on that pole. Your daughter must have been scanning trees to be looking up high like that. How emotionally draining. I do believe that angels come in all shapes and sizes
and prays are the heart of everything. Hope Taco checks out just fine at the vet. Poor baby

What a scary thing to happen. I hope Taco will get a good report at the vet office.

Thank you for all your well wishes....wouldn't you know our vet isn't in today. She talked to the tech and she told her what to watch for....blood in urine, eyes, and her body language. She was walking fine and acting normal after about half an hour.

If she changes, she will take her right to the E clinic.

Ugh, what a day!!!

To be on the safe side, sil in fitting the pole with a baffle or something to that effect so if she ever gets out again, she wont be able to get up the pole!

I can't imagine how scary that must have been. And how wonderful her rescuers were. Here's hoping she will be fine.

That's the kind of excitement you all could have done without! I'm so glad Taco survived her escapade, and am sending that she'll turn out to be just fine.

Thanks! Yea, my BP is just now going down!

I just kept replaying in my head a video of another cat up a pole and it jumped the whole way down when rescuers tried to help. It ran too and was fine.

We thought of filming it, but if it came out bad for Taco, we didn't want anything to remind us. And if she was safe, well that was enough.

Oh my gosh! I was sweating just reading about it. You described everything very well.

I'm so glad it turned out well. She is a very lucky kitty--with the cutest name EVER.

The kids named them......
Her dh found them in a front loader where he works just a year ago. Eyes closed, ears down. Three little tortie girls.

OMG, they are revered in that house. They are getting a ground turkey cake this weekend for their birthday. More a pattie than a cake! The kids write stories about them. My daughter texts me all day with pics of them...

Oh well, she takes after her mom!

Thanks!

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
My heart was absolutely racing... but this wasn't in the Bridge Forum! I have a feeling it's going to take all the people who love Taco longer to get over this!

That kitty has some special angels!

WOW! I'm still wound up, I can't imagine what you all are going through!

What an absolutely horrifying, heart-wrenching, inspirational story!
I'm so glad that all turned out well!
Bless that sweet power company man for risking his life like that to save a precious kitty. He is a true angel.
The world would be a much better place if there were more people like him in it.

Wow that is quite the ordeal. Reminds me of when I was young we also had a cat climb to the top of a power pole. No big wires like you though. However the power company would only hoist the bucket empty and the cat had to enter it by themselves. They did not allow people in the bucket. Luckily she went on. Some frostbite in the ears. A couple days later she went up the pole again! But somehow went back down herself.

Hopefully she will be ok.

Thanks mom for putting my story on. Taco is happy to be back with her sisters Mighty and Beefy. It's been 14 hours since she was saved and I am still on edge. I thought she was gone forever when i couldn't find her in the night. My husband took off of work and once he spotted her I had such a feeling of relief that she was alive...followed two seconds later by sheer terror when I realized those were high voltage wires on both sides of her. I couldn't even go out and talk to her in fear that she might start walking over the wires. I can't get the image out of my mind when she walked slowly over the wire when the man first tried to grab her. We all gasped and even the power company men on the ground turned and hid their faces in fear of what they might witness. Her fall from 25 feet made three seconds seem like 20 minutes. Taco is laying right on the keyboard as I'm trying to type now, and it doesn't bother me one bit! Thanks for all the kind words about Taco. My mom said most people don't understand that having taco way up there is as bad as if it were your own child. I replied that its actually worse to have the cat up there as my daughter would know enough to sit still and that she is being rescued. Of course i wouldn't want my daughter up there either.
. And yes mom, they were angels with hard hats!!!!

Oh my gosh I'm so glad Taco is okay! What a story! I'm afraid I wouldn't have had the presence of mind to stay away and not talk to her. Thank goodness you're smarter than I am!

Much love to Taco.
