I am going to return my Drinkwell today. The motor is too loud and I don't think that is normal. Even if I fill it all the way, the motor still sounds the same and it worries me. And this morning when I went downstairs it was much louder than last night. I will look into the Platinum, Petmate and that ceramic one as well. My cats were all wondering where their fountain was
. Hopefully I can get a replacement today.

I bought a drinkwell at Goodwill.
The motor can be loud, but I've noticed that if I remove the flow control knob, it quiets down and then I can put the knob back on.

Best $4 I've ever spent.

My oldest cat has CRF which we had been controlling with diet, but she did crash about every 6 months.
I bought the drinkwell and its been almost two years since a major crash.

I did have to put the fountain on the counter as my dog would drain it at each visit, darn big dogs...

That really does suck!

The only noise my Drinkwell Platinum makes is their loud slurping noises, lol... and the noise from when it's almost empty which, actually, is a blessing so it doesn't burn out the motor.

Whichever one you get, I hope your cats go crazy over it! :-D

Here's my Chief Red Cloud (the extreme flat faced on who really needs to drink from a fountain?, drinking from my Drinkwell Platinum ;they all love how this fountain works:

Here's a close-up - it's still Chief Red Cloud, but with his Summer Cut... hee

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
We've tried most of them LOL, and the only one that increases their drinking is the Drinkwell. If water is flowing down a ramp or bubbling or flowing over a hump, it just doesn't get them interested. The Drinkwell made a little bit more noise than the Petmate, but it does sound like maybe there's something wrong with that motor.

I would prefer ceramic or stainless steel, but the stainless steel Drinkwell costs a fortune (if they even make it anymore) and had a different design, if I remember correctly - it was huge!

Nope, our gang likes the sound of the falling water - just having the water moving doesn't do anything for them.

AWWWWW Chief Red Cloud is too cute!!!
I did return Drinkwell original fountain and purchased the Platinum fountain. Very Very pleased. The motor is so much quieter and it holds alot more water then the original.
I just love it. It was a little more, but worth it to me. Still on sale though

I am sure that my cats wouldn't be as interested in one without the spout pouring the stream of water either. They all drink from the stream and love the noise. Perla just laps it up now. When she would drink from a bowl, she would just dip her paw in and lick water off her paw. Now with the fountain, she drinks right from the stream.

I did return the Drinkwell original and bought the Platinum model. It is much nicer and holds double the amount of water. The motor is very quiet so I am happy about that.

Very cool!! Even with 10 cats (that I have) the water lasts up to about 2-1/2 or 3 days (I have other waters set out as well, though).

So THAT is the difference between the regular and the Platinum, the size! I didn't know that, thanks!

And Congrats on your Drinkwell Platinum! Wahoooooooooo!!!!!!

I purchased a Drinkwell fountain about three years ago for my cats and then upgraded to the Platinum version last year. I've never regretted it! The only problem that I'm experiencing is that it does get clogged up very quickly and then starts overflowing. So I do have to be very vigilant with it. Does anyone else experience this?

Wow! My old Drinkwell Platinum never, ever overflowed. Oh! The only time it did (sorry, memory-defunct) is when I was re-filling it when the chamber that holds the water still had water in it. It has to be completely, or very, very close to empty; else, it will overflow. Thus, I just wait for the Grrrrrwrrrrrrwrrrrr sound teling me it's getting to empty and re-fill it then. hee!

I also ALWAYS clean the little front filter that fills with hair daily, sometimes twice daily - if it gets too clogged, when you go to take it out, the additional hair that can't attach to it will get sucked through and attach to the motor which, after some time can break the motor.

Oh! One OTHER dementia-moment I had with overflow (LOL) was when I must have been on my night meds and went to fill the chamber with water, but forgot to put the lid part back on, LOL!!!!!!!!!!! Water all over the floor!

Never forget your lids, people! (And NOT meaning the 60's type lids, LOL)

Warmly,

Julie O'

Where is the front filter you are speaking of? The one that clogs with hair. I guess I could read the manual and find out
But it's more fun to talk about this great fountain
It was so cute this morning. There was a line at the fountain!!!!!!!!!!!! They just love it.

Oh! If you're looking at it from the front, it's the bottom right corner, where the black knob-thing is to make more or less water come out? That thing behind it is an extra "filter" of sorts that keeps all hair from getting through to the back area where the motor is. I just quickly lift it out, pull the hair very quickly and stick it back in there every day, at least once, depending on the usalage (a friend taught me how to speak like that, heh).

Mine line up for it, too. They also line up for one particular bowl of food even though I have 3!!!!!!!!!! Geez, Luizzzzzzz. I have a special one for my flat-faced Himmy, too - it's a ceramic pasta dish cause his face is a little too flat to fit into the other bowls if they get low at night (which they do). hee!

Tell me if you can't find that other litte plastic filter thingy - it's right behind the flow knob.

Warmly,

Julie O'

Just went and looked. Found it, no hair yet
Of course, I had three of my cats following me to the fountain to see what was going on. Man, they love that fountain and so do I
Thanks, Julie

"Portuguese" LOL, a non-latin derived language, it's actually dervived originally from Portugal which is European. Many get that mixed up.

Brasil is the only country in South America that speaks Portuguese while the rest speak Spanish - they are all latin countries while Brasil is, well, Brasil! :-D They should really be their own country, actually.

I recommend EVERYONE spend some time in Brasil - you'll meet the nicest, most warm, inviting people in the entire world!
pinky-swear!!

Obrigada, ("Thank You" in Portuguese)
