excessive puking and foaming at the mouth

I came home from work and found my baby had puked all over the house which then turned in to foaming at the mouth and lil foam trails all over the house. I am guessing the puke turned in to foaming because he had nothing left to puke up. He was hiding from me and I immediately took him to the ER. They found nothing wrong with him after an abdominal xray some blood panels, blood pressure......flushing.....ivs..... They did notice that he was somewhat disorientated and his heartbeat was at 100 and I guess for cats it should be at 200. He only puked one more time at 6am. After a day and a half the vets said to take him home because he was getting pissy. lol (which was good for him I hope he got the vet that made his butt bleedy from them sticking the thermometer in his rear all night and day long!)

He saw four different er vets and only one of them said that they noticed a murmur only once, but that murmur could be from the cat being stressed so they were not sure. The same vet told me to keep in the background that he might have heart disease. (the 3 other er vets did not tell me this) My cat is 3 years old and I feed him good food. He was wild for 6 months of his life, but his shelter mommy said his test came back fine and he was healthy. I always got the impression that he was sickly when we first got him because he had diarrhea so horribly (which I took him to the vet for and after many test they found nothing) and bald patches from fur missing on him. I also noticed after we had him home for a while that his legs tremor and his back leg sometimes seems to go weak and then he becomes clumsy if he is trying to use the leg that goes weak.

I know you all are not vets and I am not asking for medical advice, especially since I take my baby to the vet, but I was just wondering if any of you had been in a similar situation or what I should maybe research more and discuss with my vet. Also, I am very upset about the situation so please don't come into my thread and post anything off topic or other than what I have asked. I want help not a lecture! Thanks so much for anyone who helps out!

I would highly recommend that you take him for a full check up to a cat specialist. Most "regular" vets see mostly dogs and in my experience are generally less knowledgeable about cats. The hind leg issue is concerning. Possibly a neurological issue. The vomiting all over the place is also very concerning but it may just have been a one time thing and not related to the other symptoms. By best guess would be that he got into something and the vomiting was the body's way to get rid of the poison.

It could be a number of things though. But since he's having ongoing problems with no known cause I think you should have a specialist get to the bottom of it. Hopefully it's nothing serious and your kitty will be fine from now on.

Good luck

Take him to the vet immediately! He could have ingested poison.

What a scare for you upon returning home. And you did the right thing taking your cat immediately to the vet. My thinking is that your cat ingested something that made him very ill. Do you have house plants? What do you use to clean your floors, counters and bathroom? Even the kitchen sink? One of my cats got into the sink once after I had cleaned it with a bleach product and then licked her paws and was sick from that, foaming and vomiting. Will always be careful with the products i use at home for cleaning.

I hope this was a one time episode unrelated to any health issues and he recovers.

Thanks for the tip. Does anyone know of any pet health insurance website I could look at I need to buy some because I don't think he is done being sick. He was on anti-biotics and now that they stopped he is burning up. I am so scared he is not going to make it! I spent 2 grand already and I really need anyone to please help me with some heath insurance websites or what you use for health insurance and how much you pay please any help will be helping my furbaby! I really cannot afford all of this and might have to declare bankruptcy now since I have maxed out my credit cards because I am a displaced (business closed) worker!

Oh No, I am sorry to hear your baby is still not well. I don't have any suggestions as far as insurance goes. But you would not be able to declare about his health issues of late because they would be excluded as pre-existing, I think. I do know how terribly emotionally draining and financially draining having a sick pet can be. Many, many vibes for you and your furbaby

So sorry your kitty is still doing poorly. I sincerely hope this turns around. I know of no pet health insurance health plan that will cover what is called "preexisting" conditions. I think buying it for this illness might be a waste of your time but it's at least worth checking into. There is a company out there called Care Credit. Some vets accept it but you would have to find a vet in your area that accepts the credit card. It is a health care credit card for uses like vet care, human cosmetic surgery etc. I've never used it but you can look into it if you want, http://www.carecredit.com/

Has anyone heard an update on this cat.

Praying for you and your kitty! I'm so glad you took him to the vet right away- I know how terrifying it is to come home to an apartment (in my case) full of puke. That was probably the worst moment of my life, realizing something was Seriously Wrong with my little boy. I really hope all goes well!

Thanks for the vibes. My lil man was never dx with anything. So, it would not be considered a pre-existing condition. In the future so you are aware, he would have had to been treated for a specific condition on their list which he medically has no condition whatsoever, or ever was dx with any condition so he would be covered.

So, if anyone has any health insurance for their cat I would like to know just some general ball park prices and what was included, thanks! All these pet lovers on this board and not a single one has health insurance for their pet?

I did look into this and thank you very much will use this as a last case nightmare scenario emergency funds.

HE absolutely does not have a pre existing condition that was just that ladies guess about my situation. I still really do need help with finding a good pet insurance. He has no medical condition and never was or has been dx with anything ever! He went to the ER because he was puking so badly and they never found anything wrong with him. Taking your pet to the vet or er would never be considered a pre-existing condition, my pet would have had to been dx with a condition and he has no condition to be considered pre-existing. Does that make sense ?

Try CareCredit.com for instant Vet credit.

Constant puking and foaming at the mouth, in my experience with a few animals I've pet-sat for (live-in) were the result of Feline and canine leukemia. Did they check for that?

p.s. I find your signature extraordinarily generalized, presumptuous and rude and ask that you remove it for those of us who do not wish to become stressed out from your careless assumptions. Thank you.

Hi, I hope your baby is ok....
I have insurance, they are fantastic - I have used tons for my 3 babies, especially with Bugsy - Never, EVER had a problem. They pay fast, directly to my bank account. You do pay a deductible per incident, and 20% co-pay. You pay upfront and they reimburse you. If your vet agrees, this company also has the choice of paying the vet directly.
Everything, aside from dental and annual exams (vaccines, fecal, flea meds, parasites issues and such), is paid. All illnesses, prescriptions, treatments, specialists, all diagnostics, euthanasia, even acupuncture and some behavior therapy is covered.
I have spent thousands with Bugsy, as he has a LOT of problems, but if it was not for insurance, I would not be able to care for him, period. I highly recommend them - they have a fantastic customer service team, and have always been there for me... Too bad they can't insure my old lady, Gracie... If they could, I would insure her in a heartbeat!
The Company I have is Pets Best Insurance.
Good Luck!

Maybe its a bad batch of food. I know it sounds like a long shot but it does happen. Heck thats a inexpensive way to figure out whats wrong. Also, it is possible to take a cats tempature in the ear. A bloody but does sound a little excessive. I don't have insurance so I can't offer any info in that area. good luck
