Peanut is doing so well on his diet! I'm so proud of him
He's not very happy with me, that's for sure, but he's lost 1.5lbs so far since his diet began a month ago! He's being strictly monitored- I have to weigh him once a week and call my vet to tell him what the numbers are. That way, we can figure out how much food he needs and how to keep him healthy, if not entirely happy at not being fed.

Original weight: 18lbs
Goal weight: 12-13lbs
Current weight: 16.5lbs

Here are a couple pictures for you- the first one is before we started the diet, the second one is from a couple days ago!

Oh that is great. I have a cat, Jane, who actually looks exactly like Peanut. She needs to loose a few lbs. too.

So what are you feeding Peanut?

1.5 pounds in a month is way too fast. Slow it down. Cats should not lose more than half a pound a month.

I'm glad you are in contact with your vet, that's the right way to do it, but an obese cat should not lose weight that fast, it is very dangerous.

Great job!! It's always harder on the humans to say no, I think. It's just so heart wrenching to not give into their demands, but it's so good for kitties to be a more ideal weight that you have to love them enough to limit portions. Good for you!!

Kitties can lose weight on any food, just control portion size and try to get them moving and playing. Just like humans, the key is less carbs, more activity.

Peanut is currently on Science Diet Indoor Weight Management, at the recommendation of my vet for the duration of his diet. After that I'm actually doing some research into what would be best for him to keep him active and playful! I'm thinking something like Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul (it's a book, and a food too).

Otto- It does seem awfully fast, given that cats are so small... but I'm doing exactly what my vet told me to do. Do you think I should get a second opinion or maybe increase his food intake a bit? I'm sure he wouldn't mind eating lunch as well as breakfast and dinner.
