I won't lead you on with the details of the experience right now. I'll get to the point so we can all exhale. The felony charges were dropped due to extenuating circumstances ( more on that later). She was sentenced to 60 days in jail, followed by 90 days in a drug treatment facility. After that she will be on probation for one year with random drug testing, mental health counseling and 100 hours of community service (yet to be determined where). She is responsible for all the court cost and (this was something I never asked for or expected) the judge said she will begin paying me restitution in the amount of $1000.00 for vet fees incurred during Genesis' hospitalization.
That's it. I feel like we won.
I will come back later and go into detail about the whole experience. Right now, I'm exhausted and need to lay down. I want to thank all of you for this amazing support and all the prayers. You've been there with me from that first minute I saw her to the last minute I got to hold her body in my arms. I don't know if I'd had the courage to carry this out if not for you guys...Thank you so so much!! Cheryl

Thank you for letting us know right away, I've been watching. Way better than a slap on the wrist, perhaps she will evolve into a better person after all.

And may this be a precedent for future animal cruelty cases.

Well done, dear Cheryl.

Cheryl - all I can say is - you are an amazing woman to follow this through to the end, and Genesis' death was not in vain. I only wish this were the case with so many other abuses out there. So glad you will recover some of the vet costs as well. NOW..... you can try to put this behind you.
. A day for Genesis and you
and the sun is shining down on you

JUSTICE FOR GENESIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh WOW, I JUST now had time to log on for the first time today and was about to send more vibes and I wasn't expecting to see this so quickly!

Cheryl, this is WONDERFUL news! It is FAR more than I ever really expected, and it is SO much more than just a slap on the wrist!

What happened to Genesis is just horrible, and so wrong. But her memory is honored, and though it comes at a terrible expense that should never have been paid, her "mom" is learning there are consequences to uncaring, thoughtless actions - drug abuse or no.

I expect you're exhausted, and I'm quite sure it was emotionally draining.

I'm so proud of you and all that helped this happen for Genesis!

OMG Cheryl, Thank God, thank everything!!!! I feel you won too. 2 months in jail. Plus all the rest!!!! I can't imagine how you feel....drained I suppose.

You are a Hero for The Animals! I totally salute you for going all these miles for Genesis.

There is a lot of head butts going on at the Bridge!

Those TCS vibes, prayers and thoughts and candles helped. For once, an animal has come out on top.

Cheryl, I am so happy to hear this news. She is finally paying for what she did to Genesis and to you. I am surprised tho that the judge hadn't said she could never have another animal in her lifetime. I hope she learns a lesson and the drug facility helps her straighten her head out. All in all it was a good outcome for you altho I know your heart still hurts.

That's far better news than I had hoped for!
Much better than a slap on the wrist - which is what I feared! Maybe (hopefully
) she'll learn something from what she did to poor Genesis.

I'm so sorry, Genesis, that you suffered at the hands of that girl, but maybe you'll rest peacefully knowing that you did not suffer in vain. Your life meant something.

I'm glad that you are getting some closure & restitution, Cheryl. Bless your sweet heart for all that you've done to make sure that justice was served, and for seeing that Genesis didn't die in vain.

Will the girl do actual jail time, or is it depending on how her probation and rehab go?
Much more than I thought she'd get; I'm assuming this is a misdemeanor conviction?

Bravo, Cheryl! I'm sure Genesis is smiling down on you today and thanking you for your kindness and your courage.

I'm glad she got more then a mere slap on the wrist.

I hope she learns her lesson and is a stronger, better person because of this.
You, Cheryl are an amazing person

I am happy to hear that she will get some sort of punishment for the awful things she did.

And mega kudos to you, Cheryl, for staying strong to stand up for Genesis and go through this battle.

This is great news. It certainly is more than a slap on the wrist and should make her realize how wrong what she did was. If she is at a point where the she is really ready for it the counseling and drug rehab can get her back on track to a productive life.

AWESOME NEWS!!!!!

I'm so happy for you! I kind of figured that the felony would be downgraded as it seems pretty common but I bet she was surprised with the verdict.

I say chalk one up for the good guys. When you have a chance go to www.pet-abuse.com and see if your case if posted. Otherwise you can get this info posted. The abuser gets in their national database.

Take some time to take all what you have done in. I know what you can be feeling and you are right it is quite draining emotionally and you will feel that way for several days.

I'm so glad to read this, that's way more than I thought she was going to get. The cat didn't mean anything to her, but I bet that $1000 does!

So often we hear people getting slapped on the wrist in regards to situations like this. I am SO thankful justice prevailed in this case! You should be so proud of yourself sweetheart.
