Is this way of sleeping healthy?

Midnight always lays/sleeps on his back. But now all the time he's got his head hanging over the side of the chairs, couch, and beds. He's going to fall (yes he's fallen off of the edge of places, when he turns in his sleep many times) and break his neck. Or he's going to hurt his neck laying like that. Plus he always stays at the edge of places, so he can hang his head over. Is this normal? I've never seen a cat sleep like this.

Tails always lies on the edge of things and looks at me upside down with his head craned off the side. I'mpretty sure it's normal, though I also worry he's going to fall at some point. I have put my hands under to catch him a couple times, but he's pretty good at not falling, or landing on his paws.

What a goof!! It must be comfortable for him. Yes, i have seen many cats sleep on their backs. Potsie
did it all the time and he also hung his head over the edge of beds, couches and those cat trees. If I can find a picture I will show you

I find our cats sleeping in awkward positions a lot. I made a "bunkbed" out of boxes and Buddy sleeps in the top one, upside down with his head hanging over.
My favorite is when he tucks his front paws under his chest and does a faceplant into the floor.

Yeah its fine-tho I worked with someone who was convinced that the cat would puke if he was allowed to have his head llike that and would move the cat/shoo it off poor cat....

That cat in the video shows exactly how Midnight sleeps!

I've gotten pictures Rosiemac, that I will post soon as I can (waiting for a new laptop) I haven't been able to get a video, because it always comes out to dark, and Midnight is a dark color so you can't see him. I can't turn on the light, he wakes right up and moves.
So I've got to try to catch him like that during the day.

Love the video. I would not be too worried either. I have seen cats sleep that way and crash to floors, not always gracefully but always necks intact. One of my cats sleeps on his back all the time but when he 'hangs' he only hangs his head over the edge and and keeps front paws on the couch for balance.

This is a position I worry more. One of ours always does the face plant, another one occasionally too. It always looks like they passed out and like they would suffocate, esp on soft surfaces. I often see the snortle-snortle and 'what happened' look when they shake their heads up to take a gasp. The tuck seems so tight.
