I have an otherwise healthy 14 year old cat with arthritis in his back legs. The vet won't give him steroids due to his old age and he's too far gone for chondrotin/glucosemin. As you probably know aspirin is poisonous for him. Are there any other medicines out there for him? Thanks!

DId the vet say glucosamine and chondrotin would not help or have you tried without success?

We give our 15 year old Sven Cosequin and it also works pretty well.

I used to give my dog Tink
(chi/pom mix) Joint Care by Foster & Smith and she did quite well on it (she had a grade 2 patellar luxation and some hip arthritis; she was a former puppy mill dog ). I believe they have a separate formula for cats and it used to come in vanilla or liver flavor. One of the formulas was glucosamine/chondroitin and one added MSM. None of my cats have experienced arthritis (none that I was ever aware of, anyway), so I have no experience with how it works for them.
