Cell phones!

We have a MP3 thread, so I thought I'd make a cell phone thread [and maybe because I was just discussing phones at work ]

So, what phone do you have? When did you get it? Who is the service with? What kind of plan do you have? Any other phone you want?

Have: BlackBerry Tour 9630
Got it: January 4, 2010 (when my Pearl crapped out)
Service: Verizon
Plan: 1400 share talk minutes, 500 texts, unlimited data (smartphone)
Other phone may want: Looked at the HTC Thunderbolt, coming out this week at the convention. Maybe ask for birthday present Rob always gets mad I don't keep phones as long as he does. I've been avoiding touch screens but it looks/sounds sweeeeet.

I have an iPhone 4 that I got in August. I absolutely LOVE it! Service is with AT&T and I think I'm in the lowest plan. I was told by the Apple people that if wi-fi is available I should keep 3G turned off. That will save the data minutes.

Anyway we had super old, cheap phones before, and my husband wouldn't even turn his on except when he wanted to make a call. Now he uses the iPhone all the time!

My husband had a Motorola flip phone for about 3 years before getting a new phone in November. His battery cover didn't even stay on anymore, it had metals shavings in the microphone, and the battery died daily. He could throw it on the ground, break it in 5 pieces, reassemble, and it'd work like new If you look at my phone the wrong way, it breaks He is anti-smartphone! He only likes my "crackberry" when he needs/wants the Internet and we're somewhere without access to a computer Maybe one day he'll change. He upgraded to a tough flip phone in November with talk/text capabilities, that's it He keeps complaining I don't keep phones long, but in the smartphone world, new technology comes around often! I kept my old flip for 3 years, then got a Blackberry in '09, a year later it broke and got another... Now the Android phones are looking pretty nice. He's gonna beat me over the head with my phone!

Our area only gets reliable AT&T service, plus the only one with 3G. USCellular can be spotty and T-Mobile is worse than that.

So because of that I went with a Motorola Flipside a couple of months ago because I wanted an android phone with a QWERTY keyboard, and preferably something that would fit into my pocket as I do not carry a purse. I've not had any problems with it so far.

We have
700 talk minutes, shared (I think the accumulated roll over is close to 5,000)
Unlimited texting on both phones (considering that each of us can send 700-900 texts a month, this is a must! )
2GB data plan

Not exactly a cheap bill, though we can save another $20 or so if DH gets his corporate discount set up.

If size wasn't an issue I would have went with a Samsung Captivate. I also considered the Motorola Bravo, though it lacks a keyboard. If Verizon even serviced our area I'd probably have a Droid 2. Overall I like some of the included Motorola apps (pc portal, the task killer, etc), Motoblur is bleh - easily replaced, though.

I got an HTC Wildfire (Android) right before Christmas with Vodafone - unlimited data and calls. It's a step up from my old smartphone, which was falling apart.

I have a pink, Samsung Cleo. It's cute, but I don't use it much. I have it in case of emergencies, and so that I'm easy to get a hold of with fostering/adoptions. There are a few people I text but not many. I have a basic plan with Bell.

Both DH and I have the Droid X and we love it. Haven't had it all that long. Through Verizon with 700 minutes shared between DH, me and my MIL (we just pay for her line). The data package for both phones. And we have unlimited texting (DH has discovered that he really enjoys texting with me while we're at work! ), unlimited internet, email, etc.

700 minutes is more than enough for us because my relatives and friends are all on Verizon as well.

Haven't looked at other phones since we discovered the Droids.

I use a kyocera tracfone which I got last spring. It's one of those cell phones that you can only use for calls and texts. I would love to get an iPhone... not sure when I will be getting one of those, though!

I have a Palm Pre Plus that I got in November. My plan is Verizon.

I have a Nokia phone and rarely use it so I am on the pay as you go program with T-Mobile. In fact I just came back from the T-Mobile store and bought $20 worth of minutes.

Since I have been on the new Optimum Triple Play which is in my area, my land line phone can be used to call anywhere in the USA and Puerto Rico and elsewhere without long distance being charged. I use my cell phone only for emergencies and always carry it with me in the car. I love it since there are no contracts to sign.

My husband and I both got Droid 2 phones at the beginning of December. We have a completely unlimited plan (texts, minutes, data) through Verizon. I would love an HTC but the one I want isn't carried by Verizon.

I have the Iphone 3GS that I got from a friend when he upgraded to the Iphone 4. I love it!
As far as my plan:
AT&T
450 daytime minutes
5000 N&W
Unlimited mobile to mobile
2GB data
and about 3000 roll over minutes.

I love my phone I just wish I had unlimited Data!

I use a Tracfone, flip phone. I love it.

I have a blackberry storm. I've been using it for like 8 or 9 months, it used to be my husbands. It's through Bell and I have unlimited text, 200 (I think) minutes and 500mb of data. I want to get a blackberry torch soon. Hopefully in a couple weeks.

I have the new Nexus S and it's lovely

Blackberry Curve & I hate it I'm with Verizon & I can't wait until I find a phone I like so I can get a new one
post #19 of 45
Have: BlackBerry Curve 8330

Got it: May 2010

Service: Boost

Plan: Unlimited everything (Talk, text, internet) all of 60 a month and it will drop down 5 bucks every 6 months until it reaches 45 a month as long as we pay on time

Other phone may want: An Android but they came out a month or two after we got the blackberry. They also have another blackberry model that came out a few months after I bought my current one that I would like to upgrade to eventually.

We "left" Sprint for Boost. The reason I put the "" is Boost is owned by Sprint. We just left the contract behind

I've had the above phone for the last couple of years. I only use it to make calls and the occassional text. Half of the time I leave it in the car when going to (and coming from) work. I have no interest in iphones, androids, or any other fancy phone.

Mine is a Samsung Galaxy (also called Mesmerize) that I got FREE in November. I have U.S. Cellular, which I love (never had a dropped call in 4 years and they are always so nice and helpful), so Belief plan (new phone in about a year, no contract, etc.), free incoming calls, unlimited texting, more data and minutes for calls (outgoing) than I can use.

I love the phone, though it took some getting used to. I had a Motorola razor (red!) for the 4 years before that and I loved it, too. It was so small, and fit in a pocket. It was just cute.

This new phone is much bigger, but I got a red case for it and it is so much easier for texting which I'm doing more and more. And I like that I can read all my e-mail on it, as well as tcs.

The Droid is bigger than what I'm used to, too. And I was used to a clamshell phone, so this was a big change for me. I'd love to be able to find a red case for the Droid, but the store seems to be pretty limited in their designs. I'll have to get online to see what I can find.

You know, I always said that I didn't see the need to text. But it's so much fun! DH and I text now all the time during his breaks when he's at work. It's just fun to hear from him.

One morning right before Christmas, I had taken him to breakfast. He was messing around under the table and I asked him what he was doing. Here he was texting me to thank me for breakfast! Another time, we were with my sister and my BIL, taking a break from cleaning my aunt's apt. My sister and I were complaining about our jobs. I got a text (from him and he was right across the room from me on the couch) that said, "Quit complaining". And he texted my sister with the same comment. He's a hoot.

For somebody who really didn't care if he got a Droid or not, he's certainly having fun with it.

And I love being able to snuggle in bed under the blankets at night and be able to surf the web and post to TCS without having to sit in a cold room....we keep our house fairly cool during the winter.

I'm finding that the battery isn't too bad either.

The Droids actually aren't as big as the Galaxy S phones. The only way you could get one of those in your pocket is if you bought back the 80s hammer pants or something.
While my phone a little smaller than the Droids and a tight fit in my pocket, I could manage to fit a Droid.

Check out the seidio extended life batteries for the more popular phones. The prices aren't too bad and the slim ones will still fit without changing the battery cover out.

I can and do put my Sansung Galaxy/Mesmerize in my back pocket. Just not my front pocket like I could the razor.

I got my red case at a kiosk at a local mall. $15 which is lot for 2 pieces of molded plastic. But it helps protect the phone if dropped and the color and finish is exactly what I wanted.

I am typing this post on my phone. I'm not as fast as on a keyboard on a computer, but it works. I make a lot more mistakes, too.

Where I work, tcs and all personal email accounts are blocked among other things. So the smartphone keeps me connected.

So glad Gary and I arent the only ones to do this! We text each other fairly often when we are around others. Usually something goofy or something we wont say outloud around others. but lately its been a lot of joking and goofing off . We were at his parents house and his dad and grandma were going on and on about the bible and rather touchy subjects to me and I got a text from him that he typed out my favorite Christmas song and sent it to me to make me smile

I'm irritated with Verizon right now - my TL at work sent me an email with a link from "droid-life" about this:

Just over an hour ago, some depressing news hit the interwebs concerning Verizon’s new upgrade policy that will go into affect on January 16th and we’ve now received even deeper details. This isn’t going to make anyone any happier, but as always, we want you to know as much as possible so that you can make the best decision come upgrade time on your current contract.

5 things to know:

1. All customers who activate / upgrade on a qualifying plan prior to January 16th, 2011 are enrolled in NE2 (New Every 2) and eligible to use the NE2 discount for up to six months from the date they become eligible.

2. Any customer who uses an NE2 credit or Annual Upgrade after January 16, 2011 will no longer be eligible for either program. On March 6, 2011, VZW systems will be updated to reflect this.

3. All customers who exercise the NE2 or Annual Upgrade option on or after January 16th will receive a letter notifying them that it was their last NE2 or Annual Upgrade.

4. Business customers continue to receive either the two-year corporate matrix tiered device pricing or two-year retail device pricing per contract.

5. Customers will now be eligible for promotional pricing after 20 months on a 2-year contract and 10 months on a 1-year contract.

We are also hearing that the $100 credit that was included in the current NE2 deal will no longer be provided. It looks like promotional pricing is all you will get when eligible for an upgrade. We should also point out that more and more phones are offered for free these days, but still.
I bet that HTC phone I want is going to be pricey when it hits the stores (officially comes out at the convention tomorrow) and now I'll have an even harder time convincing the hubby to get it for me . While I love my BlackBerry Tour (yay trackball!), it's been freezing excessively while using BBM, and it takes FOREVER to reboot if you have to remove the battery to unfreeze it This is my 2nd one, the other one had a glitch and was sent back.

^Is there a way to do a reset? Though there's less fragmenting with the file systems used in smartphones it can eventually happen and with SSD/cards the more they're wrote to, erased, and wrote to again the quicker the life on them shortens - and with it you can get some file corruption.

I have problems fitting my wallet in my back pocket on some of my jeans, and on a few of those it falls out when I'm using the bathroom. (I always do a quick floor check in public restrooms, and frequent pocket checks the rest of the time). BUT I like to wear tight low rise boot cut jeans.

I make quite a few posts from my phone, too. So if anyone sees typos in my posts or words left out entirely. I'm sorry, it's the result of just missing it on a small screen.

I really want a belt clip (since I always have to wear a belt) that loops through the belt, is top open, and has a velcro fastener as I would definitely hear that coming open. I haven't noticed anything like that, so far, for phones though they exist for cameras. Anyone know of any?

My friend's husband is going to try and fix it for me, they both have BlackBerry Curves. Some kind of reset and "cleanse" of the phone.
