Do you reuse gift bags and boxes?

Whenever I receive a gift bag or box I always save it and reuse it. I think my SIL and I have been exchanging the same bags for years, every Christmas they get taken out and passed around. Of course, if one is in bad shape, I throw it out.

I have a friend that throws away her gift bags and she knows it makes me crazy, so she gives them to me.

Do you reuse yours?

If they're in good shape I'll reuse them. My m-i-l even reuses wrapping paper (she irons it).

Yup we always have my mam has one that's 10 years old

We tend to use them just on ourselves though
post #4 of 27
Absolutely! Mom and I have been swapping gift bags for years now as well. No point in throwing them out if they can be reused.

You bet! Growing up, my family had 3 boxes that had to be used every year, one for mom, one for dad and one for me. The one for dad actually is the same box that mom used for their first Christmas. After 40 years it was looking pretty ragged but it still had it's original bow and everything. It was tradition.

I've even been know to reuse wrapping paper (but I don't go so far as to iron it. Heck, I don't even iron my clothes!)

Sometimes, if they are in good shape

Definitely whenever possible! Also use the picture part of Christmas cards as box decorations.

Sure do. Makes life easier and saves some money.

My mother would carefully unwrap and save wrapping paper for all sorts of craft things.

Gift bags are so easy to reuse I would think it wasteful to to not reuse them.

My MIL has this wooden box that used to contain chocolates. I received earrings in it last year and this year, my niece received a lovely necklace. But neither of us opened the box when we first unwrapped it and my MIL had to tell us to open it.

I always reuse them, even if it is for scooping out the lumpy bits in the kitty litter!
Absolutely - as long as they're in good shape. Got some nice ones this year for use next Xmas.
Oh yes. I try to buy some after christmas when they are 50% off. I save the nicer bows too.

I've never bought a reused gift box. Where do you get them?
I do as long as it's in good shape.

I have had a few that I used as lunch bags for work too! They were plain ones though; no Christmas or flowery images or anything on them.

definitely! I actually put my sister's birthday present in the bag she gave me my present in and gave it back 4 days later

You can't buy them, they're reusing ones they've been given.

I absolutely reuse! In fact, I received a tin back this year that I gave popcorn in last year!

caught that, did ya?

Boxes no, but I work retail so I can get more. Bags yes.

(If they're in tough shape I cut the strings off & make them kitty toys! )

I resuse them as long as they're in good shape

I guess I am the odd one, I don't reuse bags. Sometimes I give them to my mom and she reuses them.
If the paper or boxes are still in good shape I reuse them.
Yes, I reuse them. If they are in good shape, they go to people outside the family. If they are in bad shape, DH gets the next present in them. Hey, I've taped ripped paper together for some of his presents. He doesn't care what they look like as long as we recycle.

I do often reuse gift bags and boxes. There are so many occasions where I receive a gift bag where it is in excellent condition after opening the gift. The same is true for boxes. While I do buy gift bags, boxes, and wrapping paper for special occasions, it is sometimes easier (and a lot more cost effective) to reuse a gift bag or box that someone has recently given me. I draw the line at a bag or box that is torn, has a hole in it, or looks used. But, that rarely is the case.

One thing I do in order to dress up a reused bag or box is to add fresh tissue paper and a decoration of some sort. I find it adds a special touch and makes the reused gift bag or box look fresh and new -- and it makes the individual I'm giving a gift to feel special as well. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with reusing gift bags or boxes. But, I never reuse wrapping paper! I'm too messy a package opener for that!
