Bad news:(

WE had Baddy Tested for Leukemia, FVI and heartworm. Sadly, he tested positive for Leukemia. As most of you know, my dear 4 year old kitty Princess passed away from this disease like a month ago and I'm having my kitties tested.

Im heartbroken But Baddy doesn't have any symptoms, he looks and acts like a perfectly healthy boy. He eats well, he plays, he is a cutie and I love him so much, he is 2 years old. '

I'm taking Lucas and Nena to be tested on Thursday. Lucas tested negative a year ago, but I want to have him tested again, just in case. It is so sad because I wanted Baddy and Lucas to be together, and now I have to keep them apart .

Anyway, I love my babies to death and I will love them and take care of them no matter what.

How heart breaking. I'll be praying for your kitties, too, this Christmas season.

I'm so sorry.

Honestly if they have been together for a long time there is no reason to separate them, they either have it or are immune. I'd get them tested, if they aren't positive if it make you feel better vaccinate them and let them stay together. I brought 2 known FeLV+ kittens into a home with a known FeLV- adult cat. Maude was vaccinated and she was still totally negative when she crossed the bridge. They even said they wouldn't test her again unless she came in sick, which she did but that was liver failure and her re-test was negative.

Attitude was very sick and was only 16 months old when she crossed the bridge due to it but Nuts is a normal cat, you'd never know he was sick. He has been to the vet twice for non-routine visits and neither were serious and as always he checked out perfect.

If your cats have been together for a year or years then they have all been exposed and either have it or their immune systems kicked it. Like I said vaccine the negative ones and don't separate them, at this point it would be useless.

Thank you all. What you say makes sense Taryn, there's no use to separate them at this point. But Lucas has lupus and he has had only limited contact with my other cats. He tested negative a year ago and if he is negative now I have to keep him away from the others. Let's see what happens with the others.

I will have more news on Thursday.

HUgs to all!

I am so sorry about Baddy's diagnosis and about the loss of your other babies.

Our Pumpkin-Boy died from leukemia when he was 3 years old. He lived with our other cats during that time and, when he was diagnosed, we had the other cats tested....they never came down with it.

Sending you lots of

Cats who have come into contact with the virus and shed it can become immune for life, so it might be worth asking your vet to test for that (I dont know what test it is I'm afraid), that way you know it wont be passed on.

I will keep you and your kitties in my prayers.

Titers. I would have titers run for Lucas if he is negative which will say if he has an immunity to the FeLV. Adult cats tend to build up a natural resistance to FeLV. The amount of virus needed to infect 100% of neonate kittens would inferct less than 30% of adult cats.

If the titers show he is immune then they don't need to be seperated if you don't want to risk vaccinating him or exposing him to a positive cat. I can understand that with a cat that is treated with steroids.

Thank you so much for that information, I had no idea that test existed, I will ask my vet. I hope we can have it done. I will keep you all updated.
