Back from Tennessee Vacation (long)

I am exhausted! On a map, it looks like North Carolina and Tennessee are right next to each other. Actually, Tennessee is far, far away. At least, Nashville is from where we live.

We rode through some incredible mountainous areas en route. We stayed at the Opryland Hotel, which is huge and crowded. I am not a fan of country music, but I'm open-minded, so I did go to some of the shows. Everything at the hotel was so expensive! I am glad I packed some cheese crackers and soft drinks for snacks in the hotel room. A hamburger from room service was $26.00! (Needless to say, I didn't order a hamburger.) It surprised me, because the big casino hotels (my venues of choice) in Mississippi and New Jersey have some reasonably priced restaurants. I was also shocked to find out that the sales tax in Tennessee is 10%! (No offense to our TN members; your state is beautiful, I just don't like the sales tax.) The staff at the Opryland was very friendly and I am glad the hotel was able to recover after the disasterous flood.

The Rockettes were fabulous. At the end of the show, they did a beautiful live nativity scene. The funny thing was, as they began to lead the animals out on stage, the woman next to me whispered: Is that a camel or a llama? I almost laughed out loud. I immediately thought of you all.

We had a great time, but I am so happy to be home with my baby kitties.

Glad you had fun! Welcome back! You shoulda let me know! I live in Knoxville and you could have stopped by! LOL!

Yeah the sales tax sucks, but we dont have a lot of other taxes some states have so I guess that makes up for it a bit! I didnt even know the Opryland Hotel opened again! They were still recovering from Flood Damage from last I heard!

Did you stop in any other TN cities?

I love driving through eastern TN have been there three times in my life and I loved it. All when I was dating idiots though they kind of took away from the experience they had idiot families too and it didn't help. I used to live in Clarksville, TN and I miss it but Montgomery County's sales tax is 2% higher than the rest of TN so its at 12% but there was no income tax there but I filed when I moved back to KY and they charged me income tax for the time I was in TN which I didn't really understand.

Next time you go through Tennessee, stop by Memphis!

And yes, our sales tax is AWEFUL!!! (we don't have a state income tax though so I guess it evens out). Anytime I go to visit my sister that lives in Mississippi, I do a LOT of shopping while I'm there

We drove right through Knoxville! We saw the Sunsphere (not sure I spelled that right) from the World's Fair. I actually went to the World's Fair there when I was in high school. The Opryland just reopened around 11 days before our stay. They were able to put 85% of their employees back to work. They told us Opry Mills may never reopen due to the extensive damage...with the exception of the Bass Pro Shop which has already reopened.

I would love to go to Memphis! And eat barbeque and see Graceland. I didn't know about the no state income tax - now the sales tax makes more sense.

Thanks. You know how I have a bit (perhaps a lot) of trouble with pictures? Well, I decided not to take my digital camera and bought one of throw away kinds. It turned out to be a mistake, because there were so many pretty things to photograph. I didn't even use all the film in the camera I took, so I'll be stalking cats later.

Were the Christmas lights up yet? I love going when the lights are up it is so beautiful but it costs more then because its a big attraction. They laughted at me, ex's family, because when we went I freaked about the esculators. I am afraid of them and they had to make me get on them and I was terrified don't ask why I am scared of them I just am and I don't like moving sidewalks either and I have always been like that.

The lights were up. It was really pretty. I think we only went on one or two escalators the whole time we were there. Mostly we climbed stairs and got lost.
