Poor little Fluffy has been having loose bowels and horrible gas. She jumped in a visitor's lap last night and ripped one so bad we all had to leave the room. I had checked for anything unusual in her poop, except that it was watery for about 24 hours. She ran outside squatted for about 10 minutes, came back in and laid down like she was so relieved. She has been fine ever since then. I spoke to her vet's office and they said she probably just ate something bad and it passed, but if she has any more symptoms, she will need to be seen. Does this sound reasonable to you?

Gas is one sign of intestinal parasites. Does she look bloated at all? Has she been dewormed? The loose stool also concerns me. Is it really stinky? I think I'd opt for a fecal test to rule out parasites.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
So the problem was for about 24 hours? And how long has she been fine?

If she's indoor/outdoor, I assume you treat her regularly with Revolution or something?

Sounds like maybe she ate a bug? If it was a short-term problem and has been a few days with her being fine, I think the vet's assessment sounds reasonable.

Green smelly loose stools were the only sign my indoor slips out kitty had when she had worms

She is still fine, no more runny brown stinkers, no more than usual gas. She is mostly an indoor kitty, but sometimes she likes to sun her tummy for a little while, and would rather relieve herself outside than use a litter box. She will run out, do her business and come back in. She is currently sleeping peacefully in my overnight bag.
