I got word yesterday we are to dress up for autocross on Sunday!
so freaking excited! After brainstorming all day yesterday, and refusing to pay $50 to look like every other girl on halloween, off to JoAnn's I go!

I may have still dropped $50 but I am gonna be awesome!
So I decided to go a head and start cutting out pattern parts last night in the kitchen.... that was a mistake....

Cue "helpers"
My "helper" then proceeded to attack me through the pattern and ripped a spot in it...
*insert cursing, threatening the cat, and tending to my wounds...*
Got the pieces cut out, started to unfold fabric and my other "helper" thought it would be fun to chase the fabric....
Little do they know the power of doors!!

So here is where I am at now! locked in the guest bedroom at the moment cutting out pieces and getting everything laid out!
But I have to figure out where to sew... the best spot will be the kitchen table... but then I will have more help... I can sew in the office but I will have very limited space... Hmmm what to do what to do...

And yes that is hunter safety orange, black tulle, and shiny silver fabrics

Over the river and through the woods...
They aren't "helpers", they are "supervisors", didn't you know that? Helpers actually do something, Supervisors just screw things up!

Seriously, good luck with getting it finished, and what are you going to be? First guess, car racing...a giant safety cone?

and you would be correct!
I got it all pinned up tonight, minus the tulle on the skirt, and was about to start sewing and realized I have lost my foot off of my sewing machine! GRRR! So I have to go find one tomorrow!

I can't make the bed or fix the kitty-cat blankets on top of the bed w/o a little, squeaky, blue-eyed helper who just has to pounce on everything that moves!!!

I love the fabric, it's the perfect color for your costume!

Kitties love that crinkly pattern paper, don't they?
I made my husband a Darth Vader cape once and had to cut it out on the floor (5 METERS of fabric!) and the kitties went crazy; I feel your pain.

The only place I can sew is in our kitchen; I cut the fabric out on the dining room table and/or the island. Kitties aren't allowed up there so that works out.

Make sure you put all bits of thread in the trash or it can be dangerous for the cats (you probably knew that but maybe everyone reading this doesn't).

Can't wait to see it; hope you take some pics!

Oh wow - I hope we get to see some pics of you wearing it when it's finished?

And I'm sure your 'helpers' um.. wanted to help

I shooed the cats to the bedroom and shut them in the last time I needed to lay out a pattern. Mind you, some of them were behaving themselves and the main problem was Tomas and the kittens.

Though I did lay some fabric out the other night that I needed to cut without putting anyone up. I'm not sure what Tanna was seeing but she kept getting startled over the fabric... I didn't help matters. She'd try to creep closer and I'd quickly move it and watch her jump.

I sew at the table, too. The cats don't particularly like the sound of the sewing machine so they leave me be.

I want to see how the costume comes out, too, when you're done.

they are doing okay right now! They have been more interested in the wind and leaves than my fabric! YAY!

But Google has now claimed the white fabric. Luckily its just the liner so I dont really care that much!
But here is my progress:

I have all of the front done, I am working on the ties right now which will be the shiny fabric. And I gotta hem it. I am trying to decide if I want to use the shiny fabric on the bottom or not. And to put the wire in it to make it circular!

...please ignore rocky horror in the background....

Seriously, the dress looks like its coming along beautifully. Good luck with finishing it without help or supervision.

LOL Nora did the same thing when I laid out the fabric to make my son's costume the other night. I didn't have a pattern, I just used an old scrub top (since it's made out of the same non-stretchy fabric, so I knew it would fit) as a "pattern" and just laid it on top of the fabric I was sewing and just cut around it with a 1/2" seam allowance. Nora ignored the green fabric for the most part, but the very second I laid the scrub top down on top of the fabric she RAN over and laid down right in the middle of it. LOL She also doesn't grasp the power of a closed door, but she got a glimpse that night. haha
