Hello everyone, we need your help in trying to figure out why our one year old perssian kitty ( Marley ) has a bald spot under one of his arm pit areas. The bald spot doesnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t look to bad, but it has us concerned. He also seems to be getting a second one on one his inner back thighs. The areas affected donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t seem to have any blistering, pus or irritation……..and it doesnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t seem to bother him when we touch it. This isnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t the first time he had some bald spots however. When Marley was about 6 months old, his fur began to get matted in and around his armpit and rear upper thigh areas. It got to the point that we couldnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t brush it out and when we tried, we noticed that he was getting a couple of small balding areas in and around the matted fur…..so we decided to take him to a groomer to have his underside shaved. We talked to the groomer about his matted fur and the little bald spots and she agreed that they were probably a result of that. Well, fast forward 7 months, Marley and his fur (about 80% grown in and no matting what so ever) were doing fine…..until tonight. We noticed that he has another balding spot under one of his arm pits. We also noticed a second area that looks like it may be starting to bald as well. We took a picture of the balding area under his arm pit. The bald spots resembles a freshly shaven area, showing pinkish skin and what looks like dark stubble growing back in. There is a problem with the dark stubble though…..he is a white and cream colored cat. Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m actually not even 100% sure that the dark stuff is even fur stubble…………it may just be little dark spots…….

Any ideas??????

Thanks so much !

The area doesn't look too inflamed, but could that be mange or Demodectic mange?

Is your cat uncomfortable?

No he doesnt seem to be uncomfortable at all. I've even rubbed it a little to see if it hurt him an he had no reaction. Also, I just noticed that the skin does have a thin layer of fur there......you cant see it in the pic, but being a persian and having fine hair....there is hair in the "infected area", so technically it not totally bald. Just an FYI for people, He is an indoor cat, with the exception of the garage. He likes to play out there when i am doing work......he kinda follows me all over. He is relatively well taken care of, again, no matting or fleas that we know of......so I'm a little baffled. We are in the North East if it matters.

One thing about him.......he really isnt too big on being pet or geting brushed or combed. He actually gets a little upset and moans and growls a little when we do some of his grooming. I wonder if he has sensative skin or something along those lines. He's really been like that since he was a kitten though, so its nothing new.

Hey Moo hope your cat is feeling better by now.

I'm sorry to add this in an old post but the site wouldn't let me look at your profile page to message you.

My cat has the same problem. I was wondering if you've found out what it is yet and could tell me. Or even if anyone else out there knows because My cat Casper gets very car sick and its close to 45 minute drive to our vet and I don't want to stress him if I could simply pick up a cream or something for this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
