I live in a quiet area but i wouldn't trust anyone. If i were to live in a place where Nat (Whitecatlover) lived where there were hardly any houses i might think differently, but as long as theres housing estates no way.

I truly hope the cat is ok, but i hope it's owners think twice about it going out now

I know money's tight, and I know this poses some REALLY difficult decisions for you. If I remember correctly, your backyard has a fence? Is Harvey able to leave your backyard because of openings in the fence or an ability to scale the fence?

There are low-cost options to being able to string a "cat proof" way to prevent him from getting over the fence.

Please let us know so we can help make it safe for Harvey to go outside and chase his bugs!

And more for kitty. I know it'll be difficult, but I REALLY hope there was a witness and this horrible person is caught and prosecuted!
Theres just a gap into next doors grden and then they have a wrought iron gate so and thats where I assume Izzy and their other cats get out. I've had to put Harvey out for half an hour today, he attacked Fudge,I watched him though and he's in now.Grrr, its made me so mad, I went to Pennys a bit ago and thank God Izzy has made it through the surgery, she has had to have her eye removed though and she's on alot of painkillers, she will possibly be home in a couple of days depending on how she is. Penny said she let her out at 8.45am and then she came babk in at 10am so in the space of that short time and in broad dayliht some *@n*@r did this. There will be a press release the police have said, I have also told Penny to contact The Sun, national newspaper as they may offer a reward for someone shopping the culprit like they did with that cow that put the kitty in the bin.
No matter what whether she let her cats out or not, if it wasn't Izzy it could have been a child, they obviously didn't care a less about anybody. Penny said the police have an inkling as to whom it may have been as there has been trouble with an air rifle before but of course you cannot go round accusing. I really like the Policeman who is dealing with this, he is our local beat bobby and a major cat lover which helps so much and I am sure he will not rest until he finds out who has done it.x

Air rifle? This may be the work of a local teen boy. If they do find the perpetrator, and he does turn out to be a young boy, does the UK permit a civil suit against the parents of the boy? Your friend Penny should be compensated for the vet bill.

As far as I know teenagers are tried in court the same as adults and can be given jail terms in young offenders institutes. The vets bill so far I know is £700, money that they were saving for IVF but they aren't worried, just angry.x

There are some sick and irresponsible people out there. But somehow you don't expect it in the UK. Here hunters shoot cats, and mine are indoors during hte hunting season (now). It has to be a boy with an air rifle or something like that. Good vibes for everyone concerned.

I just read your thread Ruthy--I am SO SORRY and APPALLED that this has happened. I hope sweet little Izzy makes it. Are these the neighbors that watched your animals while you were on vacation? Gosh, they have had terrible luck lately--I hope they don't lose Izzy'
I pray there isn't anyone out there shooting cats!!! Maybe you and your neighbors can start a neighborhood watch group or something. It helps cut crime down inn my neighborhood. Gosh, mega vibes to them and to you too because I know this is tearing you up.

Thanks hun, yes it seems like its their turn for bad luck at the minute. I'm so scared now though for Harvey, I daren't let him out but he's causing me alot of stress, he's been that bad but I'd rather have the stress than lose him. The policeman is lovely, he said about doing a press release so I will think that will happen tomorrow, I doubt anyone will come forward though. The policeman seems very good and he has got a cat and he said it had upset him very much aswell as angered him, he's been doing door to door all day which is fab.Penny said that Izzy will be ok but obviously poor baby has lost her eye and its going to be really hard for her, I am just so angry and upset, the poor baby, so glad that she made it home although she must have been in teriffic pain, Penny said even the veterinary nurse was shocked at the state of her. I don't know what else can be done about this, I really think a national newspaper should be contacted.x

How terrible, Pixie isn't allowed out as when I got her she was declawed, but its just too dangerous here I am sorry this happened. I have a coworker who heard me say I had cats and she made me actually dislike her because she said I hate cats and I shoot everyone that steps on my property and I was disgusted with her since then.

I wish there was away they could put it on facebook or youtube. I know how you feel about being angry. A %#@%^*# has trespassed into your quiet little space and caused a lot of pain and fear!!! It makes a person want to SCREAM I'm so happy she came home when it happened and didn't panic and run off to hide. It should go national!!

I hate to say this but all those TV shows about sociopaths say that they started their career torturing animals. So there may be one sick kid in your neighborhood.

Butzie was an indoor/outdoor cat when we got her from the pound and I was a softie and let her out in our yard. Plus, constant meowing is hard to take. Now that I live in a second story apt. with a balcony she can go out to the balcony whrnever she wants. I wouldn't let her out alone because the complex abuts redwood woods (very small) and a stream with lots of crittere, like racoons and coyotes. Tried to puy her on a leash and she becomes a rugrat.

I've just been looking at our local police website and it seems we do have a neighbourhood watch and regular meetings, you can also email them. Its not really up to me though but I still think The Sun, I think they would be very interested and I will be sure to talk to Penny about it tomorrow.x

Thanks for that, even if Penny wants me to contact them I will, I think at the minute she just wants Izzy home, the neighbours are great around here, the lady from accross the road has offered to have Izzy in the day while they are at work and nurse her, bless her, I think everyone is shocked. Our road is beautiful and the people are fab and they all know the outdoor cats, especially Harvey now he is back outdoors
but unfortunately we have one road around the back and its very rough, the policeman who is fab has gone door to door asking questions and I know he established that Izzy went through the end neighbours garden this morning so she must have wandered over the back. The vet apparently thinks the shot came from high up, possibly a window.Like I said earlier money talks and I think the sun has a good way of getting people to talk.x
