Lucy's spay

I just scheduled Lucy's spay, and I had a few questions for you guys. I am not paying for this , as technically she is my roommates cat. He gave me 200 to get it done. At my vet, the spay itself is 125. They suggest (but it isn't mandatory) to get prebloodwork as well as an iv/catheter as "just in case" precautions. They also charge for more pain meds than most places give, so that you have some when they go home. (It was like 15 dollars for Quinn). The prebloodwork and iv/catheter are around 100 dollars, if I remember correctly.
When my dog was spayed, I paid for all of it- I wanted her safe and healthy through her surgery. Do you think I should request that the roommate gives me the difference, to give Lucy the same difference? Or should I respect his wishes as her owner? OR should I just pay the difference, and get her what she should have with out bothering him? What do you guys think?I just scheduled her for the 27th, so I have a bit before she has to go in.

You don't necessarily have to have it done by YOUR vet. Most communities have a low cost spay/neuter clinic. My cat was done for $40 and I opted for vaccines at additional $24 and pain meeds at $12. There is a sticky thread here that shows how you can find a low cost clinic in your area.

Is this person a good friend and do you adore Lucy? If so, I'd just pay the $25 myself and consider it a gift. At the very least make sure she gets some pre-op blood work and something for pain the day of. I'm actually surprised they charge extra for everything little thing - I pay $106 for everything and don't get to choose, the vet includes it mandatory.

I want her done at my vet- they really are awesome, and I all ready have the 200 for most of it. Their thing is that a lot of places don't demand the blood work, iv/catheter, and extra pain meds(I think there were 5 or so days worth). I am thinking I am just going to pay for the extra. I want her to have the best like all the other critters!

I agree with you have it done at the vet.
I only use my vet for altering pets.
It is worth it to pay extra for meds and blood.
Tell them no metacam though.

What is metacam?

Also, how exactly do you give pills to a cat?

Ask for liquid pain killer.
You just squirt it in the gums.
Metacam is a pain med that can cause kidney failure.

Ahh, good to know! I will definitely watch what they give them, and will see if I can get liquid pain meds. I know my dog happily ate the pills (meat flavored) but Lucy hardly eats treats, so that wouldn'0t wo0rk with her!00000000

Wow. I am going to leave those there for comic value, but those "000"'s are Lennon's opinion on the matter....lol
