I decided to post a new thread where I will update what we are doing to help Woden recover from his DKA and manage his diabetes.

Old post:
http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=220200

As of 9/1/10 he came home at 9:40 pm. he still had his feeding tube in and has to wear his E-collar. We are feeding him CliniCare acording to the vets doseing apx 1 can a day. As well as offering wet and treat foods in order to try to get him to eat. He is also on a potasium supplement, Amoxicillin and pepcid.

He came home and once he got the romeing and crying about not being able to get in the bedroom he settled down and slept very soundly. Got up used the box with no issues and had a short drink of water. He recided some food though his tube had his BS tested (221)and was giveing his insulin at 3am when he tested 235. (I really want to murder the vet for doseing him at 3, so tired)

9/2/10
Woke up late, woden made it though the night no problem spent most of his time under the folding bed while I slept in the living room with him. Got his breakfast and BS check (199) and his first dose of pills. He seems much more relaxed and has been spralled out snoseing wakeing up ocationaly to move, drink, use the box, or get scritches. He is still rather weak and I am watching his energy and body language for any reoccureance of lethargy and unresponcivenes or 3ed eyelids showing. (things that sent him to the e vet in the first place) Tried giving him some canned cat food got excited as I was opening the can but after a smell walked away uninterested.

Getting ready for next BS check and insulin dose.

Thanks for the update. Poor you and Woden. You sound beat. It is so stressful, I know.

Just take it a day at a time. I hope he starts eating for you. That would be a weight off your mind.

Prayers and .

9/2/10 afternoon, checked BS 220, did a tube feeding. offered wet took 3 bites beofre appearing to have swallowing issues. I wonder if his tube is getting in the way.

He seems so weak, and grumbles if you pick him up. He is allmost skin an bones. I wish he would start eating on his own. I hope he is not gowning downhill again. Waiting for him to pee so I can test for ketones.
Sigh i feel horrible and oh so tired.

10 pm He peed and was moderate with ketones! Panic is now kicking back in. Gave him his 2ed dose of anti's and potasium with a hefty dose of water. Going to administer more water in a few hours.

9/3/10 Morning test 191, gave his potassium, pepcid and amox. Offered food took 1 an 1/2 tsp. Woo! we have eating. Kinda
Better then before here is to hopeing next time it is even more down the hatch. Has not had a ketone test yet today. Little bugger does not like to pee. Funney with how much fluid he gets.

He is walking much better then yesterday, eyes are clear and bright, moveing around more as well. Starting to protest to being pilled and checked for bs. Thats a change for the normal there.

Other cats still hiss and swat at him. I feel bad like I'm the only one here who loves him. I know the others are frightened by the fact Woden smells off and looks funney. But come on guys, he needs support.

He got his 2ed dose of Insulin late toady I got hung up at work. Did a ketone test and were down from yesterday but still not good as he is still in the low/moderate level. I am doing my best to keep him hydrated and getting him his insulin.

He expressed interest in wanting to have dinner as he has started to cry for food. But once it is presented to him he sniffs it takes a few licks and walks off. I have tried all kinds of foods. flavors and types as well as baby food tuna and fresh cooked chicken. Nothing gets past the few licks part yet. Here is hopeing tomarrow will be beter.

Hopefully I can get soe sleep.

9/4/10- Vet contacted me back this morning, upped insulin dosage to 1u BS was at 219 this morning before shot. He ate 2 tsp of gravy food with chuncks before refuseing anymore. Got his liquid food in his tube and all of his morning meds.
Went to the vet, got our sub-q stuff and another can of clinicare. he will get fluids later tonight.

He seems to be getting better, still sleeps alot but is trying to get away from me when it's time to take pills,
he even has started jumping off my lap. Sill gumbles when I try to pick him up though so his tummy must still be sore. But is becomeing more active, he fully stands up now when walking and no longer wobbles much. He is still very very thin.

Me personaly I have managed to get more then 3 hours of sleep! cat watch sure takes it out of you.

What a relief Woden is finally taking to your treatment with more energy and coordination - even starting to play again and enjoy himself !!!

Now, go to bed.

And then be sure to take some time for yourself and rely on your friends and family for emotional support...

9/5/10- Morning BG reading is 219, no potty yet to test for ketones. But we have jumping! He jumped on the bed I was useing for morning scritches. Jumped on my chair and has been walking around more.

I missed posting that yesterdays ketone test was low!
Woo down from when he first came home by a ton. I am hopeing today we are at trace. That would be lovely.

Managed to eat about 1/4 of a can of watered down FF pate so far today. waiting on a call back from the e-vet about my feeding tube concerns. So I gave him his normal liquid breakfast, he is even starting to struggle away when I give him it.
He better be eating good soon so we can get that nasty tube out.

Slept like a rock last night. I must be not so worried aobut him now.

9/5 Woo Feeding tube was taken out this afternoon, and right after he came home ate 1/8th of a tin of food with treats in it. Thats only a few hours after haveing a full liquid breakfast.
He has also started cleaning himself now. Of course after I had to wipe him down
.

All in all he seems much happer and better then when I brought him home. The vet was suprised at how good he is doing.

Ps. Woden says I am doing good as I allready have gained weight sence comming home, a full half a pound.

9/6- Morning bg 276 gave 1u, blarg were getting high again.

I'm worried he is still not getting enough food in him. Assisted with feeding before bed last night and will do it for dinner today as well. On his own he only eats a few kibbles and a 1/2 a tin of ff watered down with the clinicare.

He is still takeing his meds, and is deffenatly in heigher sprits then before. If only he would eat more.

Try not to panick too much about to food, realize that this IS improvement from before... they have bad days here & there sometimes.

So sorry you are going through this, the food thing sounds like me & Bear just a few weeks ago.
I know how emotionally & physically straining it is. Went through it for almost 5 months.

A couple other things to try that sometimes Bear would eat: Whiskas Temptations Milk flavor, fish flakes cat treats, and freeze dried cod treats. But not sure if those are good for his issues.

Many "Please eat Super amounts of food & have normal levels" vibes:

9/7/10- morning bg level 97.. yeah Right now I can not trust my numbers, he is eating every 3 to 4 hours tiny bits of food. That could be throwing us off.
He ate some kibble and some anned this morning like 1/4 of a tin.

I hate feeling his entire spine and his hip bones. Being sick has really taken it out of him(and me).

I'm kinda worried that he has not peed or pooped in my presance for 2 days. It's kinda hard to tell who's box leveings are who's.

9/8- 301 bg reading this morning. Same stuff diffrent day, he still is not eating real good. Vet gave us some recovery rs and upped his insulin dose.

Little bugger is being stubbern about not eating and hates being assisted with it. Other than that were now ketone free and being our normal kitty self.. though I still have to do sub-q every once in a while.

9/9/10- soo I had to skip his insulin last night.. his numbers were in the perfect range for longer than I could stay awake. Gave him his normal morning shot.

Good news is he ate a decent amount of kibble this morning. I hope the trend continues for tonight. He did barf last night and with it came his meds I just gave him
. Hopefully my paycheck comes this week so I can take him in for a check up, just to make sure were on the road to recovery.

At least things are starting to return to normal around here.

Just when I thought we were good to go.. I noticed a small bald spot on wodens face today with a small red rash/wound.. great.. I think we have ringworm.

On the plus side he is eating like a horse.
