My baby Joey is getting neutered today. He is not happy. He hates carriers, car rides, and strangers. Poor baby!! I dropped him off this morning. He cried and tried to claw out of the carrier the whole drive. I opened the carrier while we were waiting at the place, and he purred like crazy while i petted him. The vet said he is adorable, and so soft...which he is! I love him, and I love when people love him!

He looked so tragic and sad when I left him in the big cages at the vet. I get to call in a few minutes to see how he is and when he will be ready for pickup.
Hopefully soon!!
Billy is walking around the house cooing, crying and checking EVERYWHERE for Joey. He doesn't know why he can't find him. He laid by the carrier when Joey was in it. I asked the clinic (low cost spay/neuter/vacc) if they have experience with blind kitties and they recommended I go home and get Billy and bring him back to be neutered with Joey so he isn't too scared, but we couldn't afford it today. Billy actually is less afraid of people, he just gets confused easily. He gets along well with the new stray we brought in, so once he is old enough to get fixed we think that we will take them at the same time.
Below is a picture of Joey, in his carrier, looking so sad. I kept putting my finger into the cage and he was rubbing against it and licking me.

Oh, I cry too everything we go to the vet - even if it's just for the most routine appointment. Your babies are so beautiful.

I'd suggest for the next trips for any of hte little ones, to put an nice old smelly of 'eau de you' tee shirt in the carrier...it might help. If nothing else, you might feel better for the attempt.

Will the new baby be ready for his snip soon? I'm just not sure the best age for the boys to get fixed, so they don't develop any spraying habits.

I have to admit, I shed a couple tears on the way...it was just so terrible the way he cried and cried and I couldn't comfort him. I also had tears in my eyes as I said bye to him, and he looked at me with his HUGE sad eyes from the big cage. I called at 11 to see when he was ready for pickup and luckily they said I could come get him at 12:30 so I will have my baby back in about an hour. I honestly was scared they would call me and tell me he didn't make it through surgery. He is a healthy kitten but my husband and I have had so much bad luck in the past year in just about every aspect of life, I am just waiting for the next thing, and I was scared he would be it. So I was VERY happy to hear he was okay.
Thanks for thinking my babies are cute. I love them soo much!
New baby stray (whose name is up for debate...) is about 10 weeks old now, we believe. So we might end up getting Billy done on his own as he is almost 5 months. He is small though, and his male area not very big. The vet said it is a little harder to do when that small but should still be okay to do soon. We are just a little worried about Billy going alone, as the vet doesn't have a ton of experience with blind kitties. And with Billy, he can't get picked up unless he is being talked to in soothing tones, or he knows the persons smell bc he gets scared, and he is gets nervous in new places.

Oh I know how you feel. I try not to focus on the dread I feel already for when the day comes for Queen Eva's spay. It's been a LONG time. Mazy cat came from the shelter already done, and Jennie went from the havahart trap straight to the vet, she hadn't even been here in her forever home yet, so we weren't yet deeply bonded. (Tolly's neuter was almost 11 years ago, but I still remember how "funny" he was when he came home. He kept wanting to jump up on things but he couldn't angle properly he was jumping straight up in the air instead of toward the chair.)

But then.... I have the same reaction when I have to leave someone for a dental. In tears as I hand over the carrier, sobbing all the way home, clinging to the phone waiting for it to ring....

so glad you will be bringing him home soon!

You know, with Billy, could you ask your vet if it would be ok to bring Billy in just for a visit, just to sort of sniff around the office and then go home? My vet's practice actually encourages it - especially if you can call and find a 'quieter' time, the front desk staff love to dispense kitty treats and pet the kitties. I've got to admit my girl has never fallen for it, but it seems to make my boy a little happier.

Also, maybe, see if the vet thinks it might be nice if Billy could meet the vet and his assistant and get used to their scents before the snipping. Maybe it'd help a tiny bit - he'd feel a little more like he's been there before.

PS - Billy might be really sensitive to Joey smelling "funny"- but my two have always gotten over the 'vet' smell pretty quickly.

Joey is a very sensitive kitten, and two of our older cats have hissed at him and he is still groggy and doesn't understand why the other kitties are treating him so bad. As soon as he walked out of the carrier when he got home, Billy and Baby Stray ran over to him, and they have not left his side all night. They have been close by the whole time.

It is a good idea to take Billy beforehand just to get a sense of their smell etc. He is usually really good with new poeople, so that part I am not too worried about...its when he is locked into the cage that will make him nervous. AND if they pick him up without talking to him. If anyone tries to pick him up without him smelling them first and them talking softly to him, he gets scared and thinks he is being attacked. The clinic is very near me, so I think I will call and ask about coming in for a visit for them to meet Billy. He did pretty well at our regular vet, but we were with him talking to him the whole time. And this is the low cost place and we would be leaving him for a few hours which we have not done before.

How sweet of Billy and the baby stray to stick by Joey! That really warms my heart.

I cry when I have to leave my babies at the vet, too. It's just so hard!

Yep! And either place in between the boys, or after the boys, we have two girl strays we are trying to get adopted out that need spayed. We have not found anyone interested in them yet...but if someone was we would get the girl spayed before she went to a home, so there were no unnecessary kittens. We are doing the boys first because they are cheaper and we don't want to wait and have them spray or anything.

Does spaying a girl make her more loving at all? We have two girl strays, and one is loving just scared, the other has not really had human contact it seems and she hides with the other cats. She does not want to be held, cuddled, picked up or really want any interaction with humans. We are not sure we will be able to find her a home, but are hoping the spay calms her a little??

I think every cat is different, really. Mazy was spayed at the shelter before I met her. Jennie was spayed the day I trapped her, so I didn't really know her before hand. Ootay
and Bibbs
were so long ago I don't remember.

Next will be Queen Eva and she is already a sweet lap cat at 8 weeks old, hope a spay doesn't change her any

I'm so glad Joey is back home and is OK.

When I left Mollipop at the vet for her spay, I walked out the door in tears. I told myself I would not cry......but I did anyway.

Joey has spent the last day, since he got home, literally all over me. Last night he sat with me on the couch til I went to bed, sitting on my lap. Today I woke up and went to living room...he walked around crying, saw me, and ran up to me and lept on my lap. He has laid with me all morning. When I get up he folllows me. When I sit down, he jumps on my lap. If I lay down, he sleeps on me.
Is this a typical reaction?? I feel likehe is scared I am going to take him away again! He is such a little baby and so scared of people. I love him so much!!
