So, I'm in the market for some new basic dinnerware. I don't want anything containing lead, but that is proving somewhat difficult to find. I had planned to buy a simple set of Corelle, but after checking their website, learned that their glaze contains lead. The company doesn't seem to think this is a safety issue, so maybe it isn't. I have tried to google a list of lead-free dinnerware, but there doesn't seem to be a list out there. I believe California has stricter rules about such things; my theory is, if it sells there then maybe it's okay?

So far as I can tell from reading about it, Corelle has no more lead in it than normal glassware, such as Pyrex. I suspect, from their test results, that if you put them in hydrocloric acid for a week, you could not detect the lead that might be produced.

We have a set we bought about 15 years ago. Actually, what we did is buy 4 4-place settings, and put two of the four away so that if any break, we have replacements. We've had a few pieces get chipped a little on an edge, but that's it. We haven't had any pieces actually break.

Corelle used to have lead in their dishes but as far as I know...
they removed it.

I use their salad plates and small bowls, that I buy at WalMart, for our kitty dishes.
Easy to clean, dry and they don't scratch easily.

I love my Mikasa stoneware, but I have no idea if there is lead in it. I doubt it, since it is a Japanese company, and Japan is very strict on what goes in their products. I have the Arabella pattern that I purchased about 1990. I've only chipped one plate and one bowl in 20+ years, and I use it daily.
