Lola who is about 10 weeks old has been breathing heavy when active. When she isn't running around her breathing seems normal but when she starts playing and running about her breathing gets hard and loud. I am so worried that she might have some kind of heart defect...

She is scheduled for her next round of shots on the 19th. Should I bring her in sooner? She is eating, drinking and active and appears fine minus the breathing.

I thought it might just be the heat but I have the A/C turned up high and she is still making strange breathing noises when running.

I AM going to take her to the vet, probably sooner than later but I was just wondering what this could possibly be? Do I need to be very concerned?

Well, Im not going to tell you not to be concerned, but don't borrow trouble either. Take comfort that her breathing at rest is normal, eating is normal. Does she look like a sick cat? It does not sound like she does.

Have her checked out like you are going to do. Peace of mind is everything. You are a good mom to be concerned, and I hope its just her playfulness.

My cat, Fetch, pants after a bit, so we quit then.

I'm not a Vet, and not trying to diagnose or offer treatment. When Casper was a kitten he would have some raspy breathing when playing and chasing. We took him to the Vet and he had a respiratory infection. I would pack Lola up and have the Vet check her out. You both will feel better.

Wednesday is the earliest I can see the vet
I am driving myself crazy with the what ifs.

I am thinking it might be a respiratory infection as well. She has been sneezing on and off since I brought her home. The first vet said she was sneezing because of the change in environment and that she has no discharge and thus no respiratory infection.

My vet is a lot more thorough so hopefully I will have an answer on Wednesday...

Update: My vet also said no respiratory infection. She said she is probably just tiring herself out and that everything seems normal with her. Her heart & lungs sound good, no discharge etc. It really doesn't sound normal to me though... I am thinking I might switch vets. She had her second fvrcp vaccine today and it cost me $131.00! She is due in 4 weeks for another fvrcp + rabies and I can't even imagine what that is going to cost me....

The good news is she weighs 2.8 lbs which is 1 lb and 2 oz more than last month. Vet said she is a good size and all looks well

You sound unhappy with the diagnosis. If you can afford another opinion it may be worthwhile. Ask your friends with cats about a local vet that they recommend.

We had been taking our pets to a local vet for years. We felt he was very good. One of our GSD's developed a tumor on her wrist. Long story short, he took it off two different times and said "that's it". IOW, if it grows back her leg would have to be amputated.

Well it did grow back, and we were suggested to a different vet that took care of the problem...finally. Several years later, she still has her leg and the tumor hasn't grown back. So, there's always hope that professional care is the best we can get.
