Hi all, since I've been here I have never asked for anything for myself so far but I am asking for good luck for Autumn. She is not sick but I have had her for a year and a half and never been able to get her to the vet. She is very timid as I have posted before and getting her into the carrier is no easy feat. I have already had to cancel vet appointments in the past and now I have another one for Monday July 12th.

Autumn seems very healthy except for the teary eyes she has but gee, I don't even know how much she weighs. I have and need to get her to the vet. So yes now I am asking for good luck and good vibes to get her in that carrier and make sure she is as healthy as I pray she is. Thanks in advance, I really need all the luck I can get

Having a rather difficult cat myself, I am sending LOTS of . Getting Monster in a carrier is a all day task. One question, does Autumn like treats that you could hide a pill in? Such as a small piece of cheese in? You may want to talk to the vet, explain the situation and see if they can give you a mild seditive to help get her into one. Not ideal, but a small piece of valium works for us. It's a thought...

Hi and thanks for your input. I have talked to the vet and tried many things, Autumn will have nothing to do with it
She does sleep with me and sits on my lap when I'm sitting down so she isn't always afraid of me but when I walk towards her, she freaks. When I sit on the couch to read she sits on the top part of the cushion and falls asleep. I will try to scruff her at that time hoping she won't wake up and run. If that happens, it's the end of the vet appt. and I will have to cancel yet again. Once she runs, she will go under the bed and stay there for hours. I once closed all the doors in the hallway and she freaked out and still stayed out of my reach but she was so scared, I just left her alone. I can't even ask someone to help me cuz she disappears when someone comes in the house...I just can't win.

Thanks to all who have sent vibes and I'm hoping they will help.

for an easy time!

Tilly is the same way but since she has a thyroid issue she needs to go to the vet at least once a year often 2 times or more.

She will run, hide bite hiss and scratch!

what I do now...

I got a soft carrier that zips open and closed (once in she is too frightened to try and escape) that I pull out AT LEAST a day in advanced. Once she sees it come out of the closet she runs so she gets used to it being around.

One the day she needs to go..I give her a handful of treats and when she is eating or right after I gentely reach down and pick her up and talk soflty to her and pet her all the while SLOWLY heading towards where I have the carrier open. Ususally i will have it open on the bed with all hte other doors closed in case she jumps.

Then I gently place her in the carrier and quickly zip it up before she realizes where she it! Then I open the top flap and drop in the remaining treats.

She meows the WHOLE way up...but the mission is accomplished.

Then she gets a treat once we get home.

I find that heading him into a the closet where I keep the carrier makes it easier.

When I had to take Chester I got someone else to do the grabbing. In his haste to get away he ran right into the carrier.

If everything else fails I guess i would try to get the vet to make a housecall, then put Autumn in a room where she can't run and hide? it's so much easier to keep a cat calm before they get stressed than to try to get them calm after the stress has set in. For my cats in the past I have crushed up valium (1mg) and put it in food. Little Man Tate literally tore up 2 or 3 carriers I had for him!!! Best of luck I know what a nightmare it can be

Oh, you are soooo preaching to the choir!

I have two ferals I rescued years ago, and they are still barely touchable. One is better than the other.

I have used a seditive with them and also with my old Farley Velcro. The only way for the vet to give a good exam. Yes, I hated to see them "stoned" but, it was a necessary evil. It wears off, but you must confine them for their safety until it is out of their system.

Many Just be of the mind you are the boss and they do not run the show. Even though they do, at least here.

When I took Beeba to get neutered, he was sleeping in his stereo cabinet. I use it for storing blankets since the stereo is long gone.

I slid the door open just enough for him to fit through. Set the carrier on a stool at the opening and put a piece of cardboard to block the rest of the opening. He had no where to go but into the carrier. Very traumatic.

Let us know how it goes.

Good luck with her, Carol. You know how Amber is, too. DH keeps saying that he's going to get her to the vet....somehow.

I have tried most of what you have mentioned except for the valium. Don't know if my vet will even consider it but if I can't get her there tomorrow I will call and ask if I can get some from her. Since she has never seen Autumn before, I doubt she will give me any valium. She wouldn't even give me Advantage without seeing Autumn first.

Pam I do remember all you went thru with Amber and thought of her when I realized Autumn is the same way. It looks like Amber never changed and that is what scares me, I'm thinking age would calm Autumn down but now I don't think so.

This may sound silly but I am even adding to my nightly prayers that God helps me get Autumn in that carrier and to the vet, hopefully HE and all of your good vibes will get Autumn there

Neko is anti-carrier
I can pretty much get Hoshi in without too much of a fight, but Neko utilizes his back legs to kick and scratch the bejebus out of me. Sometimes if I leave the carrier out after a vet trip, I'll find Nero laying in it. Nero usually goes to the vet on his leash and harness though.

Praying is not silly. I've been asking St Francis to help you and Autumn out, as a matter of fact. Keep us posted, thinking of you and Autumn this morning.
