Pictures of the Tabby Boy I rescued...

He's not as feral as we thought. He actually likes to be petted, but is still pretty nervous.

He needs to move on from my neighbor's house, and soon. I'm going to contact all the potential homes this weekend and if no dice, then he'll have to go to the animal shelter on Monday.

I wish ALL kitties could be assured a comfortable, safe FOREVER home, but it's just not to be....

Please send him . He needs them.

Oh my goodness!!! Look that that cute little face! He's so relaxed there laying on his back! He'll find a home in no time! What a cutie!!

I've been looking forward to seeing this little guy! Oh my, he is just gorgeous. Based on his behavior, I wonder if he might be someone's lost pet? He has the looks and the personality to win someone over, I hope he gets a good home very very soon!!

If you have to take him to the shelter, do you think he will have a good chance of being adopted? He seems like a lover...

Unfortunately, no, he doesn't have a good chance for adoption. It's kitten season, and I'm rural, so there are free offers for cats everywhere. I will offer to pay the balance of the neuter as well as rabies to the adopter. Perhaps he'll be listed as "pet of the week" in the newspaper although the shelter hasn't even had luck with that lately.

I doubt he's someone's pet, as he had quite a few burrs on him, is obviously wormy and was pretty empty of food. I did find him on the edge of the university campus, but I just didn't get the feeling he was someone's pet. He could have come from anywhere, as there is a cemetery across the street, etc.

As I said, he needs our vibes. I usually take 1-3 strays into the shelter each year--some healthy like this little guy and some in horrible shape. I never ask "what happened" to them later (I know the shelter manager pretty well) because honestly, I can't handle it. I do what I can and then I have to shake it off, go home, and hug my furries.

Well, he certainly has from me. I think it's awesome what you are doing for him and other kitties.
He is so precious! I don't understand why he wouldn't have every chance of being adopted.
that little Stormy gets adopted. Be sure that that shelter tells his rescue story on his cage card and anyplace else. People like that sort of thing and it may help him get a home.

ETA: please tell me that yours is not a gassing or heartstick shelter! If it is, I will contribute financially to his welfare if that will help get him a home.

Also - post him on Facebook so his pic and story can be shared. You never know. We can get animals adopted that way.

Hi everyone,

I'm feeling the !

This morning I woke up at 1 am and worried for a couple of hours, which is not uncommon for me. This morning I had an email from my neighbor who said she'd keep the kitty as long as it takes if I'd get him tested for FELV because she is putting her cattery at risk having him there. Of course I agreed.

I'm in Stephenville, TX. I have easy access to Ft Worth and am willing to travel a fair distance for delivery if needed. I'm also starting a search for rescues/places with fosters today.

As for our shelter, no, it's a kill shelter, but it is done humanely. The woman who runs it has done it for over 15 years. It's just the volume of animals...incredible amounts come in ALL THE TIME. Between the college students and farm pets that breed indiscriminately (the farmers come in with HUGE smiles and a box of 12 mixed breed farm pups or 20 half wild kittens and think they're doing the humane society a FAVOR!) it's bad.

I'm accepting any and all suggestions! Thanks again for your help!

OK, here's my suggestion.

Call your newspaper. Meet with a photographer and the reporter and tell them the story of the rescue. Make it as dramatic as you can. Be sure they get some good pictures of the little guy.

This is the kind of story newspapers love.

And I'll bet you have multiple offers to adopt him.

Aww, bless her. I agree with the posters who said to get this story out to the press. Did you see that video of the 60-something mountain climber who climbed to get a cat off a concrete post? It was on the news, and got who knows how many hits on youtube... It is true that people love these kind of rescue stories.

I just know this little guy is going to find a home.

I've been busy contacting rescues, but so far, only one has responded and they said they are full. I'll have to think about the newspaper angle. I'm a fairly private person, so the exposure would be very uncomfortable for me.

Just talked to a friend. She knows someone who may be looking for a cat!! Yay!!!

Keep the ideas coming.

What's this little guy's story?

Hmmm....I'm in Fort Worth, near Hulen/1-20....hmmmmm.....if only my husband and other kitties would let me adopt a 3rd cat, I'd so take him!

Stephanie,

Are you SERIOUS!? I know exactly where you are. We go to Costco all the time, Petco occasionally, etc.

Here is the "little guy's" story:

http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=218087

My daughter swims in Granbury early each morning M-Th, so I'd be happy to deliver him as part of our route. It's only 30 more minutes of driving.

I hope your husband sees the value in taking this little boy. I have three cats myself and it's manageable. I also have 2 medium dogs, so I've reached my limit as it does get costly, not to mention the responsibility.

Baby Boy was wormed this morning, so that is taken care of. He seems healthy otherwise, just a little worn out from his ordeal.

Thanks for considering him. It means a lot.

Sending my vibes as well for little Mr. Stormy!! I have a good feeling about this!
C'mon Stephanie!

and fingers crossed that this little baby has a happy ending.

And Cally, many thanks to you for the "dramatic rescue" and saving his life!
Wow.....sending tons of for this little guy. He's so cute, and looks so comfortable.....especially after his ordeal!!

I'm getting some good feelings about this......something good is going to happen.

I really would love to adopt him, but I don't think the DH will go for a 3rd kitty. Plus, the last time we added a kitty to our home our older girl was NOT happy and it took a good 2 YEARS for her to come out of her shell and return to normal. My other girl has herpes and I'm not sure what a new kitty would do to her. I really don't want her to have a flare up.

Let me think about it and talk to the DH, though.

OK, I'm keeping the faith. If not Stephanie--SOMEONE!!!

As for the name, I've been calling him Percy. My daughter had to read "Percy Jackson Lightning Thief" for a summer project and the protagonist was the son of Poseidon, the God of Water. Seems pretty appropriate!

Good night...I'm off to do fireworks with my daughter. Will get some more photos tomorrow.

As Mike Blanche says - contact local press. And I will reiterate- tap into social media. Are you on Facebook? PM me. I will post him. I have networked with people all over the country. It is amazing how fast this stuff can go viral and I don't mean disease.

I was over at my neighbor's and was delighted to have Percy approach the cage door today. He has decided "hands are GOOD!" I held him on his back in my hands and he made biscuits in the air with his paws. He still gets pretty nervous when I put him down, but then there are 15 adult Birmans and Wirehairs ready to investigate him...intimidating for any kitten!

I put him on the counter for photos. He's coming along well, and his coat is SO MUCH SOFTER and he's filling out. He especially likes fish flavored wet foods and never misses a meal. He's been wormed and flea treated.

And now here's Percy!:

Oh, my heart!! He is soooooo cute!!! I think the choice of Percy is fab.....especially going along with the book and the little fella's own story. Good choice!
He appears to be at about exactly the age that people seem to throw kittens out of the house.

Does he have a little injury under his chin?

You say you're a "very private" person, and I can appreciate that, but a good reporter could write the story in such a way that your name, etc., would not be mentioned. I would arrange for the local shelter to handle calls about him, and do the adoption.
