I was wondering what was going on with the other Vet. Now I know. Are you going to try to take him to small claims court to pay for all costs associated with Boo's latest "corrective" surgery? I would, once they have acted on your claim.

Glad to hear that Boo is cleaning his face now, and that he's getting back on his kidney food. Do you think that's why his mouth smelled of ammonia, because of him being off his kidney food?

OH yes ma'am I am. I am taking him to court and going to try to get reimbursed for the initial screw up and reimbursed for getting it fixed. This new vet was so great, we only kept him in hospital for 2 days instead of 3 and that saved the bill from getting too high.

I do think his mouth smelled of ammonia because of the Friskies, BUT, as his mouth has smelled like dead animal probably since the initial extraction went awry, I have no idea if it was really like that before or not. But it doesn't seem to be as bad now. Hopefully after another week or two on the Hi Tor we will see it dissipate. He will be going in sometime soon for a PCV and I will talk to her about it then.

He was grooming his face again, but then went and ate and undid all of his tidy work

Thank you all

Okay, in defense of Friskies here, my cats have lived on this their whole lives, and I've had some pretty old kitties. Never heard it called "kitty crack", though!

If Boo-Boo wants it, I say give it to him... Hope he continues to get better!

How is Coco, Mews?

I am getting him off the Friskies. In fact we can out, so he only has Hi Tor. He eats it when I pop open a fresh can, but after that he doesn't want it. I also think the clyndamycin is bothering him a bit but we are almost done with it, only a couple more days. I am assist feeding again.
He is sneaking pieces of hard purina one and putting them in his box with him, I found pieces in there when I went to clean his blankie yesterday LOL!! His mouth is looking great

I meant to ask earlier but apparently didn't hit submit, has anyone ever used a lemon rinse (One lemon, sliced, steeped in very hot water overnight and used in a spray bottle) to put on the fur of their pet to kill/repel fleas? Mom wants to do that for the outdoor cat Boca because she is deadset on bringing him in this house in the winter, (And I have no say in what Mom wants to do really) and she will be keeping him in her room, so she says. I was just wondering if this is dangerous. I've read it isn't but am unsure.

Thanks

Do NOT do a lemon rinse on your kitty! Kitties and citrus do NOT mix! It drives them NUTS!!!! Do a test - part a lemon and give to a cat to smell - they run from it like the Devil runs from the cross! It is awful for them; citrus is a huge cat repellent... poor kitty would want to skin himself alive

If she wants something natural try Diatomaceous Earth (food grade), or just go for the regular flea treatments...
hugs to you and Boo!

Thank you for telling me this. I've told Mom and she will not do it now.

Boo is doing way better today. Yesterday he was blah, today he has been up, active, and munching on food like crazy. Apparently he got into Chickster's Purina One and ate way too much way too fast, (We're not 100% sure it was him, but I think it was) and puked 3 times (small amounts) on the way to or away from the pan. No big poops or constipations. I dunno about all that.
He loves his Hi Tor with hot water in it, mushed into a gruel, and he is eating his Iams Renal that I bought that long time ago! I also bought him some Royal Canin today, and he is enjoying that as well (The Mature 27 one with low phos)
They were out of Chicken and Rice Purina One so I had to buy "Weight control" Purina One, but I bought a huge bag. The phos in it is at .7, which compared to his Hi Tor at .1 is high, but he prefers his Royal Canin over PO anyway, it seems.

Everything is going extremely well. He is not hollering in the tub for water, he gets it himself (If we catch him doing it we go in there to let it stream a bit faster as it has a leak) and he is drinking out of his glasses well. I bought him a couple packets of temptations for after-med treats (Couldn't give him any with the dental surgery) but things look great! He is grooming himself much more now.

He is even interested in whooping the rear ends of the outdoor cats now, grumbling at them and scratching on his post. Here's to hoping he can gain a bit of weight, he is SO VERY skinny it's very sad to look at ... but he is sleeping SO well, laid down fully on his side and with his head resting on its side so... I'm happy

Thank you all

Thanks for the happy update! About his thinness. The vet is keeping an eye on his thyroid numbers?

Well we ran a T4 at the old vet and his numbers were fine. But they didn't run the other test (T3? It's -supposed- to be run in conjunction with a T4 to be sure) and I haven't even got around to discussing that with the new vet but I will talk to her about that, too. He's really spunky today
I will call Monday and get an appt for PCV, BUN and discuss it with her. Thank you for mentioning it

Thanks!!
He is really eating well today and has been very talkative. I am a little worried about his hind leg weakness though, of course he's been "Box ridden" for the past however many months, not feeling well because of everything, but he went to jump up on the server where we have his box (And no, can't move it anywhere else, he'll just sit on the server anyway because it's up high) and he hit with his front paws but not his back end, and went sliding all the way down the server quite slowly until he sat in a soft pile of empty plastic bags (It was actually pretty funny to watch, he's not hurt, he is ok) but still, he is slipping and sliding when he goes to jump on the arms of chairs and things. He has his claws but doesn't seem to be using them often, and when he goes to jump on things it's like he wants to do a combo move (Arm of chair, server, box, boom-boom-boom) and then usually fails at one of those points. Or slightly fails. Anyway. Will talk to the vet about that, too.

As of now, getting his own water, not being yowly waaaaaaaahmbulance about anything and is very comfy

Thank you all so so so much

MY guess is that he has a bit of arthitis in his hind quarters that causes a bit of pain, so he just can't jump as well. Quite common in older cats. Do you give him anything for that? I think Otto swears by Cosemin (is that right, Otto?), but I give Sven Liquid Glucosimine when I give him his Miralax, since the Cosemin is powder (I think), and Sven won't eat wet food, so no way to get it in him!! Hmmm, now that I think of it, wonder if I could dilute the powder Cosemin along with the Miralax and give it to Sven all at the same time. Otto? What do you think?

It very well could be, and he could have it in his front legs (shoulders) too. If I rub his shoulders at the ball and joint where the muscle is and press too hard he makes sure to tell me he doesn't like it. As for his hips he hasn't minded me touching them, but yeah, he's a little wobbly as well. And he's not doing combo moves anymore today, taking it pretty slow. This morning he seemed reaaaaaally down in the dumps. He ate, then after meds I took him out in the sun for about 10 minutes (They're chopping down trees at the power lines here and it's super loud outside besides already 84 degrees at 11AM) and that seemed to really perk him up. I put his tent downstairs so hopefully he'll change sleeping spots and stretch out a bit. He won't stretch out in his box. (It has a huge pillow in the bottom and it's a tall box, but the laying area is barely an inch from the top)

Anyway... going to call the vet today and try to get some more info. Thanks

Ask the vet about the meds.
Coco has had arthritis since she was 10 and the vet said she can not be on meds for it now.
Also where do you get the Hi-Tor?
I want to try it with Coco.
