I was talking to my sister last night and she mentioned that they got another dog. That puts them at 6, although all but one are little dogs and they live on a 40 acre plot in the northern foothills of Colorado. So they can handle them.

Anyway, then she said - He's a MinPin (Miniature Pinscher) and it's a rescue dog. I said, Oh good! Rescues are the best! But I wasn't prepared for what she said next...

He was used as bait. Yes, dog fighting bait.
She found him on Craig's List and it was a no brainer that he needed a good home, and they have a good home to give. His foster-mom is a vet tech at the place where the police brought him. He's already had surgery on his leg and had stitches for a huge gash, and his foster mom and her 2 Pyrenese and 1 MinPin helped him recover from all of it until he was ready to be adopted.

He's 11 weeks old and only 3 pounds.
And they've had him for 3 weeks! So he was a little-bitty-baby when they got him, and he's still itty-bitty. She said the best thing about him being so little is that he doesn't remember what happened to him.

The sweetest thing, though, is that Rocco has adopted him too. Rocco is their American Bulldog. He's a BIG DOG, and overall he's not too terribly fond of all those little dogs running around. He tolerates them, and he wouldn't hurt them, but he isn't too friendly with them.

This is Rocco.

When they brought little puppy home, Rocco decided that was his puppy to protect. She said for the first 3 weeks that he was home if anyone made a threatening move toward the puppy, Rocco would get between them and growl. Rocco doesn't growl. And he is definitely a menacing figure when he wants to be (though he usually is a big ol' baby). Rocco's getting better about sharing his puppy but he's still quite protective.

All I can think of is that somehow Rocco knew what that baby has been through and will make sure he never, ever is harmed again.

I'm going to see my sister next weekend so I'm hoping I can get a couple pics of the little puppy to share here.

I was sick when I read he was a bait dog - but a puppy?!
People should rot in hades.

I'm glad he's got a good home, and hopefully he recovers physically & mentally without any long-term problems.

What a lovely person your sister is to open her heart and her home to this poor little baby. 11 weeks old! I don't have suitable words to say what I think of someone who would harm a tiny helpless puppy.

And good for Rocco! Sometimes they do know when someone needs a little extra TLC. I'm glad the little MinPin puppy has a "big brother" to look out for him.

I got pictures over the weekend
but they are on my husband's laptop, so I have to wait for him to get them transferred to mine. I won't make you wait too much longer, though. Apollo is a CUTIE!!
