For All of Us Who Lost a Loved One

I found this on another post (another site) and copied it - its for all of us who have lost a kitty (or pet):

Lend Me A Kitten

I will lend to you for a while a kitten, God said.
For you to love while he lives, and mourn when he's dead.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe two or three.
But will you, 'till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you and, should his stay be brief
you'll always have his memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught below I want this kitten to learn.

I've looked the whole world over in search of teachers true.
And from the folk that crowd’s life's land I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain?
Nor hate me when I come to take my kitten home again?

My heart replied, "My Lord, Thy Will Be Done"
For all the joys this kitten brings the risk of grief I'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness; we'll love him while we may.
And for the happiness we've known, forever-grateful stay.
But should you call him back much sooner than we planned.
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.
If, by our love we've managed your wishes to achieve.
Then in memory of him, who we loved, please help us while we grieve.
When our cherished kitten departs this world of strife,
Please send yet another needing soul for us to love all his life.

If sure brings some bittersweet memories. I think of Max, my soulmate cat, who left in 2005. He was 12. He had never been sick a day in his life, suffered kidney failure. We took him to the vet on Friday and turned him loose on Monday. I still cry. I also think of our beloved Speedboat. He left January this year at the age of 14. Our life is so empty without him and me miss him every minute of every day. Thank you God for sending these two wonderful cats to be such a special part of our lives. They have left memories that will last forever and footprints on our hearts. And thank you God for our two we still have to love until you call them away too. Muffin and Mattie, you are two special cats and we will love you to the end. I hope this poem you shared will bless all like it did me. It makes me truly thankful for my pets, the ones who are missing and the ones I still have.

The ones I miss the most are Mitten (my first cat who was 13 when he died of cancers), Spooky (my Cornish Rex who was my 2nd most favorite cat I've owned - was 15 1/2 and died from a heart attack at home) and just this past fall, our dear boy Charlie (our first Ocicat). Only 3 yrs old and died of complications from a UTI.
