Round 987987979846

I rescued two kittens today. At least I think I did the right thing. Their mom is a neighbor's cat that was never spayed. You know the story. Another neighbor has been trying to trap the mom for quite some time with no success. I came home from the gym and found mom on my porch which was odd because she usually runs from me. Then I spotted the kittens. There's two: one black and one orange tabby, pretty little things. They're probably 5-6 weeks old. Ordinarily, I wouldn't have taken such young cats from their mother but A) I had the opportunity and B) I was afraid that if I waited they wouldn't be socialized. Mom cat needs to be trapped too so we're going to set the trap on my porch with some towels the kittens have used. Hopefully, we can stop one more cat (well 3 really when you count the kittens) from breeding but I'm feeling a bit pessimistic. Is it really going to make that much of a difference when my neighbors won't spay and neuter their pets? Someone will ask so I'll say no I don't know who it is. If I did I'd have dealt with them directly. Never fear!

Yes, it does make a huge difference

There are many tips for trapping a feral cat if you need any. I hope you get her soon, poor girl.

She's actually not feral. She's someone's pet. They're too cheap or lazy to get her fixed.

I was worried about taking the kittens from her since they're about 6 weeks old but they're doing great this morning. The little one's eyes were completely gummed closed yesterday but they're looking much better after treatment. He's giving his brother a hard time, bouncing all over him.

Happy update. Using the kittens, I was able to trap the mom. The smallest kitten wasn't eating well so I'm glad they're all reunited. They're in a foster home until they are eating well then the kittens are being adopted and the mom fixed and returned to the neighborhood! Whoot! We've been trying to trap mom for a year.

Good job!!!! A win-win. Yeah- I hate lazy stupid people who think it's ok for their pets to roam unaltered.

Thanks everyone! It was the best possible solution. I'm just glad there was a foster home. I would be glad to foster but the last time I did it it took me a year to get Hemmy to stop spraying (he was a stray and not altered until adulthood) in the room the foster stayed in so it's not possible for me to foster except in emergencies. I'd be particularly afraid to bring a mommy kitty in. Kit and Hemmy would be after her, not a restful place for mom and kittens.
