In June, we are doing the Carnival Fantasy out of Charleston. It wasn't my choice - this is a trip with DH's extended family. I would have chosen a newer ship with better destinations than Nassau and Freeport. Ah well, a deck chair and a good book sounds pretty appealing right about now.

In July we are doing a week at Walt Disney World.

Any cruise is better than no cruise I say! But I know what you mean....I avoid the Bahamas. Not my favorite. So many better destinations! At least its been refurbished.
I like the older ships because they are smaller and simpler. The newer ones are so geared towards "extras". I feel like I am spending too much on things that should be included....why should I have to pay extra for a cappucino??

I have never been on a cruise. I would love to go to the ocean though. Had a wonderful vacation in Fla once just collecting shells and walking the beach.

We don't go away for any length of time. I am pretty much a home body. I have everything I need here. A beautiful view, my own bed. Day trips are more our style.

Besides, have 2 cats that need meds and I don't trust people to do it for me.

Is Lockport in upstate NY? I heard its gorgeous up there but have never been. Day trips are as good as going away if you live in a beautiful place. Where I live its an hour or two to the White Mt's of NH and the lakes region of NH and I live right on the beach. So best of all worlds. The only thing we don't have is desert.

Driving an hour or so to the coasts of Maine or Cape Cod is like a mini-vacation for me. I would love to own a little cottage someday up in NH or Maine by a lake. A change of scene is always refreshing.

I'm heading for Texas next week for my niece's wedding and to spend a few days with my brother before he moves to Dominica. Maybe next year my vacation will be in Dominica.

We normally take a cruise, and were planning on cruising to Hawaii this year, but since we were adopted by 2 additional kitties last July, our plans have changed. Not sure they're ready to be left on their own (with the two older cats who are still trying to adjust to their new life with their new brothers) with just a neighbor checking in once or twice a day, especially since we'd be gone a minimum of 16 days! So...I'm thinking we'll just do nothing this year and save up so we can do more excursions next year.

Last year we cruised to the Panama Canal. 19 wonderful, relaxing days! It was the BEST! I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

On August 14th we are leaving Summerville, SC to drive to Meeker, Colorado. We plan on driving straight through, alternating back and forth.

We will be in Meeker and Grand Junction, CO until the 22nd, which is hubby's great-grandma's 100th birthday party (her birthday is 8/18).

When we leave, we are taking a week or so to get home to SC again, visiting different states. I still have to figure out where all I want to go (Four Corners is a definite). Would love to visit Best Friends Animal Society, but it's pretty far out of the way west-ward!

That's probably the only vaca this year since it is 2 weeks long!

Two of my kids will do community theater until July, then they go to church camp and Presbyterian Youth Triennium in Purdue, IN (anyone heard of this?), then we may actually go on vacation to visit a friend in New Bern, NC (beautiful) and venture over to Emerald Isle, NC (even more beautiful).

Speaking of beautiful, fifi1puss, three years ago we took a road trip through the New England states - and it was one of the most wonderful experiences of my lifetime! There is so much to see and do - and the coast highway is great. I hope to do it again someday...

Sort of the same here. If we go anywhere, it's over night and back the next day. No cats to give medication to, but I have other pets that no one would be willing to care for. The juvenile turtles need daily watering. There are no pet sitters in my area (too bad I wouldn't know how to start a pet sitting business lol) and the ones 60 miles away are not reptile friendly - since reptiles aren't pets or something.
The turtles will easily outlive me, so summer vacations will probably always be out of the question.

Yes, Lockport is in Niagara County. There is Lake Ontario to the north and Lake Erie to the west. We produce tons of produce up here, especially fruit near Lake Ontario.

It sounds like you live in an area like we do. A couple hours to the Finger Lakes from here and the hills of northern Pa too.

Yep, when you live in a vacation like place, why go anywhere? A change of scenery is great, but I do like coming home.

I guess sometimes it's a trade off. If I could choose to travel to my hearts content, or be loved by 11 furkids....I think you all know what I would choose.

We have garter snakes here, and I like them. Everything serves a purpose. We are all creatures of a higher power IMO.

Not too much going on this year for us.....everything we have is going into the basement remodeling projects.

We are going to Virginia for my nephew's wedding in June and will spend the weekend there. I've already contacted our petsitter and we're on her schedule. We may be going to Connecticut to visit one of my dearest friends; my brother and SIL want to check out a casino there, so my DH will go with them to the Sun. Me? I'm shopping with my girlfriend and we'll hit a lot of my favorite stores there. The petsitter knows about that one, too.

DH will be going to Vegas for a week-long union seminar and conference in August; since I don't fly, I'll be staying home that week. Which is fun for me, too, because I get to do things that I wouldn't normally do: take a couple days off work, go shopping and out to dinner with girlfriends, things like that. My co-workers and I are already planning to attend a High Tea at a local Victorian-themed restaurant in the area for that week.

Then in late October, it's back to Connecticut to see my girlfriend and to pick apples to bring home and make into applesauce and apple pies.

We only vacation once or twice a year and usually it's just visiting with friends for a weekend or something like that. When DH has to be in Chicago, we'll drive there instead of flying and while he's in conference, I'm visiting with friends. We shop and eat! LOL

Next year, we'll be married 40 years and DH is desperately trying to talk me into a cruise to celebrate.

I agree but unfortunately my travel compainion doesn't feel "relaxed" enough after going away somewhere around here
I keep trying though!
You are smack dab in the middle of a very beautiful place! I always am amazed when people from other countries come to vacation where I live.

You must go!
Try going on cruisecritic.com you'll get tons of reviews on different places and ships. It important to pick the right cruise ship and itinerary for you. Not every ship or port of call is for everyone. Visiting friends and family can be so nice because you not only get a change of scene but to reconnect with loved ones always makes you feel good.

Same here.
Besides, big vacations cost money - which I dislike spending.
I prefer to put money back because something always happens.

We went on Princess, and it was roundtrip from LA, which I think they have now cancelled. It was a perfect cruise for us, since hubby doesn't fly, and all other Panama Canal cruises either start in FL and end in CA, or vice versa. Lucky we went when we did.

And I agree with you that Cruisecritic.com is a MUST when planning a cruise. I got so much fantastic info from that site, both for our Panama cruise and also for our Alaska cruise the year before.
