Hi guys, its Monday morning here, and on Friday night i bought a new kitten (no pics yet sorry) and we have only been having problems.

1. the kitten does not stop meowing! i know this must be because he misses his mum, but he literally does not stop unless hes curled up next to me, other than that he is running around the house meowing very loudly, this morning he was still going strong, i suspect he will be doing it for a while.

2. the kitten has hardly eaten, since we got him on Friday night, he has only had a few mouthfuls of DRY and WET food, and some water, which is way under normal and is starting to worry me.

3. the kitten through up this morning, and im starting to worry that he is getting sick, he through up only saliva, it was clear as day, but he through it up none the less, this is because he has hardly eaten.

Can anyone help me with any of the above 3 problems i have?

Thanks

How old is this kitten? Did the breeder tell you what the kitten was eating and are you using the same food?

As for #1. Sorry, you're going to have to live with this. He's probably going to be loud for a few months and it should slowly taper off to him meowing less. But then again you may always have a louder cat. Only time will tell. What breed is he, btw?

#3 Kitten needs a vet check. I'd schedule him in for tomorrow morning if you can get some food in him tonight. If he won't eat soon, see if there's an ER vet you can get him in to see tonight.

Kittens can get upset, but they usually have a good appetite unless ill. How old is he, though?

Any, yes, it sounds like you have a vocal cross.
Encourage it. Mine will meow-answer then I say their names and will often meow back with just talking to them. Some of my cats will answer me from the opposite side of the house when I call their names - very good for knowing where they are.

I hope the vet visit goes well. Any chance he could have found something in your home Friday night and ate it? String, part of a toy, plastic, etc.

hes around 10 weeks

haha, yea id like that, but when your trying to sleep, and hes meowing in ur ear without hardley taking a breath, it gets annoying! lol

i dont think hes eaten anything od, weve kept our eye on him, being a new kitten and all, hes had alot of attention.

the owner gave me the food he was using, so his food hasnt changed, plus i bought some kitten dry food.

To help with the crying, you can get him a small stuffed animal as a "friend".

It is common for kitties to not eat in new situations, but it sounds like you might be dealing with something else. I think it's a good idea to get him to the vet. Keep us posted!

His meowing sounds correct for a 10 week old. They're pretty loud and needy at that age. I have one that I found at ~10 weeks that didn't stop that needy meowing till around 8 months old even though he had another cat that he was very bonded with in the home. He's still a loud needy cat.
But he is also one of my most affectionate cats.

You have to kitten proof your home... if it fits in a kitten's mouth it may very well end up there. Just like with toddlers.
No amount of watching them is good enough because they're quick and sneaky.

8 months! lol

we have a small toy that has his mothers scent on it, that sits on the floor but he never touches it, if hes not on my lap, hes running around searching for his mum meowing loudly.

yes i can tell hes an affectionate cat, he likes to sleep on my neck or in my arm, and dusnt approve of sleeping by himself.

Sometimes I think when a cat is very new, a bit of massage on the back of the neck and upper back can reverse/solve a lack of appetite. I saw the photo of him in your other thread - and oh my - he is super cute!!

I have a bizarre personal belief that vocal cats have above-average intelligence/intuition toward human signals. So talk to him in English and tell him your preferences and his intuition might amaze you.

A couple of my kittens are fairly vocal. One, the male kitten Blaan, is fairly talkative, cute, and very sweet... but I wouldn't put above average intelligence down for him.
Oh well, I love him anyways.

Kittens are babies and thus often vocal and needy. And yes - two vocal and active breeds. They will vomit if upset... but a vet check is in order anyway because he's so young/little especially. Let us know how he's doing.

Another option to comfort him ...and you said he wants to sleep on you - is to get a special stuffie for him that has a heartbeat. This is used for tiny kittens but may help soothe him.

Snugglepup or Snugglekitty are two that come to mind. Don't know what you can get in Oz.

At least it will get your attention if it needs it. lol Seriously...did you research pedigrees before making this purchase ?
.

Bengals are notoriously hyperactive and both are extremely vocal felines compared to most other domestic house cats.

Awww...but what a lovely gentle thing.
I think Bengals are a cross between dog and a cat in their behavior. I would surprise him with a dog for companionship.

hehe, yes hes certainly vocal, no doubt

well we went to the vet last night, turns out he has a grade 3-4 heart murmur, so hes going to have an interesting life if the heart murmur starts effecting him, they said theres a realy small chance he can grow out of it, but she doubted it.

has anyone had cats with heart murmurs and lived a full happy life? with no troubles?

If you bought this kitten from a breeder you need to let the breeder know that they are breeding and selling "defective" kittens. That is just wrong.

I can't advise on heart murmurs in kittens, I've only dealt with them in senior cats, and I imagine that is a bit different. In a kitten it must be a genetic trait. I HAVE heard that kittens "often grow out of heart murmurs" but I have no idea if that is true and accurate information or not.

Someone here will know.

My sister has a Bengal from a breeder on this site.
Maybe he can give you advice.
Bengals are loud.
You should here them at the shows.
I grade 3/4 heart murmur is pretty high.
That cat might end up with HCM.
I had a kitten with a heart murmur who will be 10 years old in a few weeks.
Hers is a 2/3
You will need yo have you kitten scanned for HCM.
If you want I can also write one of the TICA judges who is a Bengal breeder and see what she says.

well they graded it 3-4, and i also read that, if the cat is nervous or stressed to make there heart beat louder, it can throw the reading out, and my kitten was going nuts on the bench as he still misses his mum.

that would be good mews2much!

thanks!
